ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, SPECIAL EDUCATION Position Type: Administration (Certificated)/ Director Date Posted: 4/9/2026 Location: All sites Date Available: 07/01/2026 Closing Date: 04/22/2026 QUALIFICATIONS California administrative services credential Experience, aptitude and knowledge of special education programs Successful teaching experience required Ability to evaluate complex issues, recommend appropriate solutions and alternatives, and make timely decisions Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in written form, with District administration, special education staff, community members and parents REPORTS TO Director I - Special Education SUPERVISES Staff as assigned FUNCTION To help provide leadership in developing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating special education programs PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES Supports oversight of program implementation of special education programs at school sites Maintains current knowledge of special education laws, regulations, processes, and procedures as it applies to maintaining legally compliant services to special education students, including monitoring implementation of settlement agreements Regularly visits school sites and conducts walk‑throughs of special education classrooms to assist principals and other administrators in special education instruction Addresses and resolves problems related to special education program implementation at school sites Assists in development, implementation and monitoring of District's improvement plans for special education Attends interagency meetings, assists with development of interagency agreements and procedures Monitors implementation of differentiated staff development for certificated and classified special education staff Coordinates and monitors implementation of instructional materials in special education classrooms aligned to State Department of Education guidelines Develops and supervises Extended Year (summer school) Program for special education students Assists with budget recommendations and expenditures; completes required District and state reports Coordinates meetings and follow‑up contacts with staff, parents and community Performs other duties as assigned SALARY $160,145 - $194,356 Annually, 223 days (max salary includes longevity & education stipends) EEO STATEMENT NONDISCRIMINATION POLICY The Bakersfield City School District (BCSD) is committed to equal opportunity for all individuals in education and in employment.
