School Health AideReports To: Principal/Supervising Nurse/Lead NurseFLSA Status: Non-ExemptEmployment Status: 9-month contract, 7 hours/dayMinimum Job Requirements:Salary: Based on Experience, $12.01 - $14.26 per hourEducation: High school diploma or GED; basic healthcare training preferredExperience: Minimum 1 year in health care setting preferredSkills: Certified in Adult and Pediatric CPR and First Aid; knowledge of universal precautions; strong interpersonal and organizational skills; basic computer skills; excellent attention to detail and accuracy; acceptable completion of district training as per skills list.Basic data collection skills: i.e., vital signs (temporal temperature, radial pulse, adult and pediatric blood pressure respirations)Respiratory safety: i.e., nebulizers and inhalersWound care: i.e., appropriately cleaning of and dressing of wounds (scrapes, abrasions, etc.)Medication administration: i.e., oral, nasal, ophthalmic, otic and topical medications; gastrostomy tubes; use of emergency medications, including but not limited to Epi-pens, rectal Diastat, nasal versed, GlucagonDiabetes care: per American Diabetes Association and Oklahoma State Department of Health guidelines and per student's physician ordersProcedures that may be delegated to health aides include (but not limited to): urinary catheterization, colostomy care, gastrostomy tube care, gastrostomy tube feedings, oral suctioningEssential Job Functions:Utilizes standards of care and first aid training in caring for students and staff including but not limited to: collecting data in compliance with health services standards and supervising nurse instructions administering, documenting and inventorying medications in compliance with health services standards communicating appropriately with supervising nurse compiling data as directed providing care within the scope of practice and limitations of position utilizing appropriate problem solving and accurately performing approved job skillsPrioritizes and organizes completion of job responsibilities, including but not limited to: responding in a timely manner to students, parents and staff performing required duties in a timely manner consistent with standards and deadlinesMaintains accurate records including but not limited to: accurately documenting all services provided to students and staff accurately utilizing appropriate computer and paper documentation systems utilizing appropriate language, terminology and abbreviations tracking and documenting immunizationsSupports health services goals through continuous quality improvement and educational activities including but not limited to: attending health services meetings as directed contributing ideas and information as requested participating in activities and/or projects as requested complying with all health services standardsParticipates appropriately in district safety activities including but not limited to: collecting, organizing and maintaining student and staff emergency information remaining knowledgeable regarding evacuation procedures maintaining a safe and organized work environment consulting with supervising nurse regarding any potentially hazardous situationMaintains confidentiality of students and staff.Essential Behavior: Ability to use sound judgment in any situation. Ability to receive and appropriately respond to directions of a Supervising Nurse and/or administrator. Must be able to deal successfully and rapidly with changes in assignments and properly respond to complaints. Handles problematic and/or difficult situations by communicating to the appropriate person.Attendance Statement: Able to be in attendance for assigned responsibilities with 95% attendance.Environmental Conditions: Primarily inside working conditions with no extreme environmental conditions. Routine exposure to body fluids.
