JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the safe and efficient installation, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment and machinery used in sugar processing. Work involves providing routine preventative maintenance and following electrical codes, manuals, specifications, schematic diagrams, and blueprints to ensure adherence to all safety electrical standards.

Work is performed under limited supervision with moderate latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgment. Position relies on experience to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Performs predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on low and medium voltage, motors, motor control centers, switch gears, and lighting circuits and fixtures
• Runs conduit and wiring for all types of new electrical/controls installations
• Repairs, replaces and installs speed sensors, transformers, circuit breakers, motors, heating units, conduit systems, power distribution switches, etc.
• Troubleshoots and repairs a diverse range of electrical equipment throughout the mill (e.g., motor control circuits, switch gears, low and medium voltage drives up to 13.8 kilovolts, power quality analyzers)
• Writes, edits, and uses standard operating procedures (SOPs) and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures; makes recommendations for modifying job plans throughout the facility, etc.
• Makes suggestions for better use of technology and precision work practices to improve reliability of the plant equipment
• Acts as safety leader and works with others to achieve the site safety plan's goal of being a zero-injury workplace
• Assists with the planning, prioritizing, and scheduling of electrical maintenance based on operational need and with input from supervision
• Utilizes plant CMMS systems to acquire and return spare parts according to work order instructions; provides written and verbal comments and feedback after any work is performed
• Responds to emergency situations such as sudden electrical failures to mitigate potential risks and damages
• Assists with investigations related to electrical failures
• Reports any accidents, mechanical issues or damage to company equipment promptly to the supervisor
• Works collaboratively with other team members and supervisors to achieve project goals
• Ensures the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
• Follows organizational and public safety guidelines and protocols, performs job functions in a safe manner, and reports all safety hazards per established policies and procedures

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or GED with trade school Journeyman level skills and three (3) years of electrical experience in a heavy industrial environment (utilizing low and medium voltages);
• OR a combination of experience, certification, education and training that demonstrates expertise in the related areas.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES OR SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• None

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Familiarity with International Society of Automation (ISA)/ Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards
• Knowledge of and expertise in steam/gas turbines associated with power plants
• Knowledge of material handling systems, piping, valves, pressure vessels, pumps, cooling towers, building & grounds, and air compressors
• Bilingual – English and Spanish

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the 10 Life Saving Rules
• Knowledge of National Electric Code (NEC), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 70E, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) workplace practices
• Knowledge of Good Manufacturing and Maintenance Practices (GMMP)
• Knowledge of safety protocols and compliance standards related to electrical equipment and machinery used in sugar processing
• Skill in using mathematics required for the work
• Ability to operate and effectively use a forklift and manlift
• Ability to operate and effectively use, power meters, ohms meters, meggers, phase rotation checkers, voltage testers, and amp meters
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, electrical schematics, blueprints, one lines, and loop drawings, etc.
• Ability to adapt quickly to a multicultural environment
• Ability to follow instructions from supervisors and team leader
• Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a service-oriented team
• Ability to follow safety guidelines and protocols and perform job functions in a safe manner
• Ability to work rotating shifts, including days, evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, while maintaining consistent performance and adherence to operational standards

• Depending on functional area of assignment, tasks involve the periodic performance of moderately physically demanding work, usually involving lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 50 pounds).
