Job Overview St. Mary School in Bryantown, Maryland is hiring an Elementary School Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. This is a full‑time on‑site role that reports to the Principal. Responsibilities Planning: Create lesson plans that align with the Archdiocese of Washington academic and religious standards. Use standardized test scores and other forms of assessment to adjust lesson plans and inform instruction. Plan learner‑based lessons that address the various needs of all students. Instruction: Deliver a balanced program of instruction incorporating direct, guided, individual/group practice, questioning, demonstration, and discovery. Plan individual and group instruction that includes lectures, discussion, and hands‑on activities. Administer assessments (both formal and informal) to determine if instructional objectives are being met. Use assessment data to differentiate instruction to meet diverse needs. Assign class and homework that support lesson objectives and reinforce learning. Classroom Management: Establish procedures that optimize instructional time, create and enforce clear rules that foster an atmosphere in which all can thrive, maintain a positive learning environment based on mutual respect, set high expectations, and ensure Catholic values guide all interactions. Communication: Maintain a grade book reflecting student progress on formative and summative assessments. Monitor grades and communicate status to parents and administration. Inform students and parents of assignments and provide detailed written instructions, rubrics, and due dates. Routinely post up‑to‑date information to the school’s grade‑book portal. Use email, notes home, and phone calls to inform parents about inadequate academic or behavioral progress. Hold conferences when needed. Produce quarterly progress reports and report cards. Catholic Identity: Foster and support Catholic beliefs, traditions, and practices. Reflect Catholic teachings on social justice and witness service. Assist in planning liturgical ceremonies such as mass and prayer services. Lead and encourage prayer in the classroom. Plan and teach religion classes (if applicable). Attend Catholic liturgical ceremonies as required. Non‑Instructional Duties: Perform duties such as carpool, recess, lunch, and substitution as required. Sponsor clubs and other school activities as required. Attend home‑school meetings and after‑hour school events as required. Participate in all required faculty and professional development meetings. Obtain Maryland, Virginia, or DC certification within three years of hire. Obtain required religious certification as required.
