Job Description:

The Registered Nurse in the ICU provides care for complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma. Patients may have diagnoses such as ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac catheterization, post-surgical, and multiple system trauma. This role involves working with a mixed unit divided into pods and requires nurses not experienced in CVICU to avoid floating there unless they have the necessary specialty experience.

Responsibilities:

• Provide nursing care for complex ICU patients
• Manage patients with cardiac conditions and provide post-operative care
• Administer IV medications and manage hemodynamic lines
• Work collaboratively in fast-paced critical care settings
• Float to various adult floors if necessary

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience
• BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, TNCC certifications required
• Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing; RN licensed in South Dakota
• Epic experience required
• Experience with telemetry, ventilator management, and proning

Unit Description
General Information
Beds: 39 - MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU - mixed unit
Minimal Experience:
2 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel experience is most preferred
If they have 1.5 years of ICU experience EXCLUDING travel, please have CRT send to management team for approval
Will you accept a first-time traveler? No. Minimum one prior travel assignment
Traveler must reside >100 miles outside of facility
Permanent staff must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
Patient Types:
Complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro and trauma
Diagnoses include: ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, s/p cardiac cath, post-surgical, multiple system trauma - heavy trauma population
Cardiac experience is preferred (not required): CABG/TAVR - 24 to 48 hrs post op experience is preferred but not required for travelers
Will not take fresh open hearts unless they are experienced, and the facility felt comfortable with this - given to permanent staff
