Client Note: This is primarily a database administration role focused on performance tuning and optimization in snowflake
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and operate a cloud-native Snowflake platform on AWS (account/region strategy, security, networking, environment topology).
- Own workload performance and spend: warehouse sizing (single/multi-cluster, scaling policy), Resource Monitors, Query Acceleration Service, caching, and workload isolation.
- Tune queries and data design: micro-partition optimization, clustering keys, Search Optimization Service, materialized views, Dynamic Tables.
- Apply modern storage patterns: permanent/transient/temporary tables, External/Iceberg Tables; leverage zero-copy cloning for dev/test.
- Implement security and governance: RBAC, tag-based policies, column masking/row access, SSO/SAML/OAuth, network policies/PrivateLink, KMS integration.
- Monitor and alert using ACCOUNT_USAGE, INFORMATION_SCHEMA, Event Tables; integrate with CloudWatch/Slack/PagerDuty; define SLAs/SLOs.
- Deliver DR/backup strategies: Time Travel, Fail-safe, cross-region replication, and failover/failback.
Qualifications
- 5+ years in database engineering/development; 3+ years hands-on, production Snowflake at scale.
- 2+ years as a cloud database engineer; 2+ years in public cloud (AWS preferred).
- Expert Snowflake performance engineering: profiling, pruning effectiveness, clustering, Search Optimization, Dynamic Tables, Streams & Tasks.
- Proven AWS integration: S3, IAM/KMS, VPC/PrivateLink, CloudWatch, Lambda/events.
- Strong SQL and Python; Snowpark experience preferred.
- Security/compliance: RBAC, masking/row policies, object tagging, SSO/SAML/OAuth/key-pair auth; familiarity with Business Critical controls.
- DevOps/IaC and automation: Git, CI/CD, Terraform; scripting with bash/Python, SnowSQL/SnowCLI.
- Monitoring/observability at scale; excellent communication, analytical problem-solving, and rigorous documentation.

- Snowflake Cortex AI: embeddings, vector search, LLM inference and governance.
- Unistore/Hybrid Tables for operational patterns.
- External/Iceberg Tables and data sharing/Marketplace.
- Orchestration/ELT tools (dbt, Airflow, Fivetran).
- Cross-cloud/region DR experience; SnowPro and AWS certifications.
