Material Handler Shipping and Packing

This role supports a high-volume manufacturing operation by safely moving heavy pipe, valve, and flange products, staging them for shipment, and assisting with general warehouse and shop duties. You will work primarily in the shipping and packing department, using a sit-down forklift and other equipment to locate, move, shrink wrap, and palletize large fabricated materials for outbound orders during a 2-month contract that may extend depending on business needs and performance.

Responsibilities

• Move heavy fabricated materials such as large flanges, pipes, and valves within the facility, ensuring safe and efficient handling at all times.
• Operate a sit-down forklift to locate materials in warehouse racking by product number and transport them to the packing department for staging.
• Prepare materials for shipment by shrink wrapping, palletizing, labeling, and organizing orders according to shipping requirements.
• Perform shipping and receiving tasks, including order pulling, picking, packing, and verifying inventory for outbound and inbound shipments.
• Support inventory control by accurately locating, counting, and tracking materials within the warehouse.
• Assist the shop with general duties such as heating and shrink wrapping material, cleaning up metal shavings, sweeping, and maintaining housekeeping standards.
• Handle steel and other heavy fabricated equipment safely, following all facility safety procedures and guidelines.
• Collaborate with team members across shipping, receiving, and inventory areas to ensure production and shipping schedules are met.
• Adapt to changing production demands by working additional hours or Saturdays as needed to support increased workload.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in compliance with company policies and warehouse best practices.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in material handling of heavy fabricated materials such as pipes, valves, flanges, or similar steel products.
• Hands-on experience operating a sit-down forklift to move large or heavy equipment safely.
• Experience in shipping and receiving, including order pulling, picking, packing, and processing outbound and inbound shipments.
• Experience working in a manufacturing or warehouse environment handling steel or similar industrial products.
• Practical knowledge of inventory handling and basic inventory control processes.
• Ability to read and locate products by product numbers within warehouse racking.
• Capability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, moving, and handling heavy materials throughout the shift.
• Comfort working in a non-climate-controlled environment with varying temperatures.
• Reliability and flexibility to work early morning shifts and additional hours or Saturdays as production demands increase.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a pipe, valve, and flange warehouse environment.
• Experience with blasting or sandblasting operations.
• Experience moving heavy fabricated equipment with a forklift in an industrial setting.
• Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish.
• Familiarity with shrink wrapping processes and general warehouse tasks.
• Strong teamwork, communication, and willingness to assist across departments.

Work Environment

The role is based in a very large industrial facility that includes dedicated shipping, receiving, and inventory warehouse areas. The building is part of a multi-facility campus in Missouri City, Texas. The environment is non climate controlled and can become hot in the summer, although there are many fans throughout the area to improve airflow. You will work around heavy steel products, forklifts, and other warehouse equipment in an active production setting. The culture is close-knit, with approximately 2030 people on site who regularly interact and help each other across departments. The position follows a first-shift schedule of 5:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with the possibility of working later depending on production needs. As workload increases, Saturdays are becoming more common, and weekly hours will typically exceed 45 hours and may ramp up to 55 or more, providing significant overtime opportunities.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.50 - $18.50/hr.
