Cashier Position

Store/Tienda #1 - 840 East 41st Street, Hialeah, 33013 - Shift/Turno: Part-Time/Medio Tiempo - (Flexible; Morning or afternoon/Flexible; Por la mañana o por la tarde) - The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the goals, values and operating principles of Sedano's Supermarkets, and in conformity with all laws and regulations governing the company. Every employee is to follow the policies and procedures of his/her department as well as those of the company to ensure smooth operations. Every employee, regardless of job title, is responsible for ensuring a safe environment throughout the store. This includes, but is not limited to immediately securing an area when a hazardous situation occurs, promptly informing the store manager of the situation, and/or promptly taking action to remove the hazardous condition. Every employee must also maintain a friendly attitude, wear the proper uniform or dress code, keep the store stocked and organized, and provide excellent customer service on a regular basis.

Cashiers provide excellent customer service while accurately processing customer purchases.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Politely greet customers with a smile and provide excellent customer service; attend to customers' needs calling for manager or supervisor when necessary
• Promptly scan products or weigh produce being purchased; operate cash register accurately and efficiently accepting all forms of payment and provide the correct change when appropriate
• Maintain cash drawer with sufficient currency and coins
• Count out cash drawer at the beginning and end of a shift
• Conduct price checks when necessary
• Place items in bags for customers; assist with loading into shopping cart when necessary
• Return discarded items back to shelves when necessary
• Keep the conveyor belt, scanner, scale and counter clean at all times
• Assist with keeping the front of the store clean, organized, and free from safety hazards
• When requested or scheduled, straighten out displays and shelves of merchandise (a/k/a "facing")
• Attend and/or participate in store or department meetings
• Punctuality and good attendance in compliance with company policies; ensures work responsibilities are covered during foreseeable absences
• Performs other work-related duties as required to accomplish the objectives of the position

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as bagger or facing clerk when necessary
• Add or change paper in registers, printer, adding machine or other office equipment
• Report any equipment malfunctions to manager on duty
• Gather shopping carts from front of store and parking lot when needed
• Assist manager on duty in other departments when needed

Competencies, Skills and/or Qualifications

• Ability to read, write and speak English and Spanish preferred
• Ability to understand and follow instructions in both English and Spanish preferred
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions in one-on-one and small group situations with directors, managers, customers (both internal and external) and the general public
• Good mathematical skills
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
• Ability to use computer, cash register and lottery, money order machines, etc., to accomplish essential duties of this position and change or add receipt paper when needed
• Ability to use 10-key adding machine
• Takes responsibility for own actions
• Ability to work hours and days scheduled, including holidays and weekends
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail
• Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to:

• Stand in one place for extended periods of time
• Walk
• Use fingers and hands to type, handle, or feel
• Reach with hands and arms
• Repetitive motion with arms and hands
• Talk and hear
• Use sense of smell
• Ability to see including close vision and peripheral vision

The employee is frequently required to:

• Carry, lift and/or move up to 20 pounds (e.g. bag of rice)
• Push and pull carts of merchandise
• Stoop or bend at the waist
• Twist back and neck

The employee is occasionally required to:

• Sit
• Climb step stool
• Balance
• Crouch or bend at the knees

The individual performs duties in a grocery store environment. He or she maintains frequent contact with supervisors, employees and customers. The noise level in the work environment is low to moderate.

In this position, there is the possibility of using scales, shopping carts and cleaning supplies and equipment.
