Food Service Worker III / Food & Supply Courier

Reports To: Director of Nutrition Services

Position Summary: The Food Service Worker III / Food & Supply Courier is primarily responsible for the safe and timely transport of food, supplies, commodities, and equipment between school kitchen sites. This position ensures accurate deliveries, proper food handling during transport, and compliance with food safety and sanitation standards.

While transportation is the primary responsibility, this position may also support cafeteria operations as needed, including cashiering, serving, catering support, and general kitchen assistance. Additional duties may be assigned by the Director of Nutrition Services.

Qualifications: 1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED). 2. Valid Ohio driver's license required. 3. Positive attitude and professional approach to job duties. 4. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to interact appropriately with students and staff. 5. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. 6. Basic computer skills including checking emails and internet based applications. 7. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. 8. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. 9. Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions, labels, and safety documentation. 10. Basic math skills. 11. Ability to follow a driving route and GPS. 12. Knowledge of basic food safety, sanitation, and proper handling procedures. 13. Ability to work cooperatively as part of a team. 14. Must be able to frequently lift, push or pull 50 pounds. 15. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.

Essential Function Statement: This position is primarily responsible for food and supply transport operations with secondary duties including handling, lifting, and support functions related to delivery, storage, and cafeteria/kitchen assistance.

Performance Responsibilities: Food & Supply Transport Operations 1. Operate district food service vehicles to transport food, supplies, and commodities between school sites according to established schedules. 2. Load, transport, and unload food and supply deliveries in a safe, efficient, and sanitary manner. 3. Ensure proper temperature control and food safety standards are maintained during transport. 4. Verify and complete transfer documentation and maintain accurate delivery records. 5. Receive and respond to daily transfer requests in coordination with Nutrition Services staff. 6. Fuel, clean, and maintain assigned transport vehicles; report mechanical or safety concerns immediately.

Food Safety & Quality Assurance 7. Follow all USDA, HACCP, and district food safety regulations during handling and transport. 8. Ensure all transported food meets quality, freshness, and safety standards. 9. Rotate food using FIFO (First In, First Out) principles during delivery and storage support. 10. Report any damaged, unsafe, or inferior-quality products immediately.

Cafeteria & Kitchen Support (Secondary Duties) 11. Assist with cashiering, serving, and cafeteria operations when not assigned to transport duties. 12. Assist with catering events, special programs, and food service set-up and delivery. 13. Support receiving, storing, and organizing food and supply deliveries when time permits. 14. Assist with inventory organization, rotation, and storage of food items in walk-in coolers, freezers, and dry storage. 15. Assist Kitchen Manager and staff with operational needs during peak service times as assigned.

Operational Support & Customer Service 16. Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor when interacting with students, staff, and visitors. 17. Support positive customer service and report any concerns or complaints to appropriate leadership. 18. Promote safe work practices and immediately report unsafe conditions or equipment issues. 19. Follow district policies regarding confidentiality, student meal programs, and food service operations.

Additional Responsibilities 20. Assist with kitchen operations when not performing transportation duties. 21. Participate in required training, meetings, and in-services. 22. Interoffice mail delivery and boxes. 23. Perform other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Manager or Director of Nutrition Services.

Equipment Operated: Food service delivery vehicle, Basic kitchen and warehouse equipment as needed

Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to extreme temperatures (hot/cold environments, walk-in freezers, outdoor conditions), Vehicle operation in varying weather conditions, Interaction with students, including occasional behavioral challenges, Evening, weekend, or extended hours as needed, Lifting, crouching, kneeling, and climbing during deliveries or support tasks, Standing, walking, sitting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs, Loading and unloading supplies and food items, Repetitive motion associated with transport and handling tasks, Exposure to noise and fast-paced operational environments

Safety & Compliance: This position operates under a Class II Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control Plan. While routine duties do not involve exposure to blood or bodily fluids, potential exposure may occur as a condition of employment.
