How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare As a registered nurse, you are expected to consistently deliver the best in care and customer service, and demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with patients, their families, visitors, and with each other. You will lead nursing coordination and provide individualized care for patients of all ages, utilizing delegation and critical‑thinking skills to deliver quality service through a team‑oriented, collaborative approach. Key Responsibilities Asses, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care to achieve optimum outcomes for patients of all ages. Complete age‑specific admission and ongoing assessments, document findings, and develop evidence‑based plans of care. Collaborate with the healthcare team, patients, and families to implement an interdisciplinary plan of care and revise it as needed. Accurately administer treatments and medications and document them using the automated computer system (EPIC). Identify and meet patient/family educational needs, integrating them into the plan of care. Contribute to Carilion Clinic’s performance‑improvement activities. Act as a patient advocate, protecting patient rights and providing psychological, social, and cultural support. Apply knowledge of growth and development to provide appropriate care for children and adults. Use clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances and plan strategies to reduce length of stay and improve outcomes. Serve as a role model for clinical practice to coworkers, students, and physicians. Manage resources, set priorities, and modify the environment to meet patient care needs. Complete manager‑directed projects within specified timeframes and guidelines. Employ problem‑solving methods to facilitate resolution of patient and personnel situations. Participate in the orientation of new employees and provide constructive feedback. Participate in unit, hospital, and system activities that promote staff participation and decision‑making. Support education activities for the unit/department. Qualifications Education: Graduate of a professional nursing school from an accredited college, or graduate of an approved program eligible to sit for the VA licensure exam. Licensure/Certification: Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in Virginia or eligible to obtain RN licensure. Life Support: AHA BLS‑HCP required; may be required to obtain/maintain BLS, ACLS, PALS, or NRP based on the specific work unit. Computer Skills: Proficiency in EPIC electronic medical records.
