Job Summary The SUE Project Manager is responsible for the project management and design of Sub‑Surface Utility Engineering projects. This includes all aspects of project planning, ensuring that every step is followed through to completion, maintaining client relationships, communicating with project team members, and monitoring the project budget. The role requires on‑site work and travel to various project locations. Duties & Responsibilities Manage Sub‑Surface Utility Engineering projects. Act as an expert, providing technical, design, and project‑management services for SUE. Develop scope of work, schedule, and fee for projects. Balance workload and resources. Support business development by sourcing new opportunities and preparing proposals. Ensure all aspects of the project are completed on time. Coordinate with state and local municipalities to obtain necessary certifications and permits. Train and supervise SUE crews in vacuum excavation (test holes). Work with SUE Project Coordinators and the SUE Operations Manager on weekly scheduling. Oversee and monitor SUE activities to meet performance goals. Maintain accurate progress notes and photo documentation. Resolve discrepancies with subcontractors or vendors. Meet with clients, build relationships, and serve as the key client contact. Communicate with the project team and monitor the budget. Conduct critical negotiations, handling controversial issues as they arise. Demonstrate strong persuasion, negotiation, and problem‑solving skills. Show knowledge of standard utility‑locating practices. Coach and mentor junior staff in utility design theory and application. Lead complex assignments requiring new or improved techniques. Stay active in professional organizations and maintain industry relationships. May lead and supervise a project team on projects of all sizes and complexity. Work on‑site daily, with flexibility to travel as needed. Education Requirements Bachelor’s degree in engineering, surveying, or a related field (preferred). Required & Preferred Experience 5+ years of Sub‑Surface Utility Engineering project‑management experience. Proven track record of project performance. Excellent people, written, and oral communication skills. Strong business sense and persuasive skills in client interactions. Results‑oriented, decisive, and direct attitude. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Ability to juggle multiple projects simultaneously. Effective independent and team worker. Strong organizational and technical skills. High flexibility to meet varying demands. Experience acquiring permits from local, state, and federal review agencies. Valid driver’s license and clean motor vehicle and criminal record (as determined by McKim & Creed). Pass pre‑employment drug screening.
