Description: The staff Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver. They assume responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame. They provide care to these patients via the utilization of the nursing process. They incorporate nursing trends, technology, financial and human resources within the philosophy of the institution.

Job Responsibilities: They perform all responsibilities and duties required by the unit as specific to the scope of service. They implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice. They maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided. This ensures the integration of information for use by the healthcare team. They complete initial assessments upon patient admission. They develop an appropriate plan of care in accordance with unit standards. This plan is based on patient and family needs. They implement the plan of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures. They modify the plan of care based upon continuous evaluation. They take responsibility for patient and employee safety. This includes reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents. They communicate with others directly and in private when necessary to resolve issues. They offer constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers. They confer with colleagues to expand their knowledge base. They identify their learning needs and take initiative to begin appropriate solutions. They fulfill all requirements of departmental competencies. Department Specific Job Functions: They provide care to the inpatient obstetric patient. They monitor fetal well-being. They administer medication specific to the obstetric patient. They provide patient education specific to the obstetric population. They participate in the intrapartum care of the patient and newborn during labor, delivery, and surgical delivery.
