Substitute School Nurse

School NurseReports to: Superintendent and/or PrincipalQualifications:Bachelor's degree or equivalent from a four-year college or universityOne to four years related experienceRN licensed by the Ohio Board of NursingCertification in CPR, AEDSuch alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriateEssential functions are listed below, however they are not limited to those listed:Conduct school programs of immunization, physical examinations, vision, and hearing testing as dictated by state mandatesMaintain up-to-date health records for studentsAssume responsibility for injured or ill students or staff membersAct as health consultant for teachers, students, curriculum, school, health and community agenciesImplements Board Policy on exclusion and re-admission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases and medicationDispense medication or delegate according to Ohio Revised Code with appropriate training, demonstrations, supervision, and evaluationMust be available for emergencies in all district buildingsAssist in disease control programs by enforcing local and state immunization laws, screening for lice and other communicable diseasesAssist with individual health care plans for students with special health care needs, and in-service staff as neededActs as a consultant in establishing sanitary conditions in schoolsAct as consultant, health educator and counselor to promote disease prevention and healthy lifestyles for students, staff and parentsObserve the ethics of the nursing profession; exhibit professional behavior, emotional stability and sound judgment, and maintain confidentialityProvide staff with necessary student health information on an "as needed" to know basis, e.g., health restriction listMaintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., medical records, prescription medicine, IEP'sInteract in a positive manner with staff, students and parentsMaintain a relationship with social agencies to assist with student needsAttend meetings and in-services as required by negotiated contractImplore proper safety procedures of all studentsReports to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics and other agencies on health mattersMust follow Board Policy for purchase of all necessary medical supplies, materials and equipment for the districtPrepare an annual budget and purpose statement for the Board of Education's approvalPerform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent and/or building PrincipalOther Duties and Responsibilities:Coordinate dental health program and screeningsSchedule bloodborne pathogens in-services for districtAct as CPR/AED instructor for staff and studentsSchedule times for federal, state and local board of education required testingServe as a role model for studentsRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Ability to work effectively with othersAbility to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writingOrganizational and problem solving skillsNursing procedures as covered by Ohio Revised Code 4723.28 and national standards of school nursing practiceGeneral operating knowledge of computers and related softwareThis job description is subject to change and in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the incumbent.
