Radiologic Technologist

Under general supervision, specializes in the performance of computerized tomographic radiological procedures on patients. May perform general diagnostic radiology examinations. Explains examination procedures to patients and prepares patients for the examination. Reviews clinical data on requisition and performs appropriate examinations. Obtains additional information about the patient's medical history as necessary. Prepares procedure room and regularly replenishes stock such as linen and related supplies. Analyzes anatomical structure of patient, sets up equipment, and performs the CT scan. Manually controls the equipment to obtain the proper diagnostic information from the area of the body being studied. Administers intravenous contrast media and utilizes power injectors. Monitors patients for possible reactions as appropriate to the study and provides immediate care to patients if a reaction should occur. May prepare and set up sterile equipment, monitors, and supplies required for the procedure to be performed. Ensures adequate supplies are on hand and properly stored. Assists in performing complex sterile diagnostic procedures such as biopsies. Demonstrates principles of radiation protection; may involve shielding of patients and selecting appropriate equipment settings to reduce dose. Resolves any image exceptions and ensures high-quality image delivery into the system. Completes all study indexing and confirms necessary clinical protocols before performing study. Demonstrates consistent standards of excellence including communication, open communication, positivity, and respect for diversity. Performs all documentation in the medical record and within the radiology information system to support all clinical and billing functions. May work in a fixed unit or in an ambulatory mobile unit. May be potentially exposed to radiation if proper precautions are not utilized. May be exposed to high-voltage equipment and potentially contagious patients. Occasionally may lift and/or move equipment and/or patients in excess of 10 lbs.
