Job Title: High School AP English Teacher Department: High School Classification: Certificated Reports To: High School Principal Peers: HS Faculty and Staff EEO Category: Professional Exempt Status: Exempt Job Summary Valley Christian Schools is seeking a full‑time High School English AP Teacher for the 2026-27 school year. The high school teacher will integrate their spiritual walk, academic training, and instructional skills to deliver content‑specific teaching and support student growth, consistent with the VCS mission statement and Philosophy of Christian Education. A typical teaching assignment includes six instructional sections and two prep periods within a block schedule. Base Salary ranges from $77,000 to $108,000 per year, based on degree and years of experience. Additional compensation is given for obtaining an ACSI teaching credential, a Master's Degree, and a Doctorate's Degree. Teaching Responsibilities Adapt curriculum using the scope and sequence and standards provided for each course, under the direction of the Department Head and campus leadership. Apply content expertise and best pedagogical practices. Plan instruction based on the characteristics of the students. Set rigorous and appropriate learning outcomes and daily lesson plans. Use resources and technology effectively. Design learning experiences appropriate for a 75‑minute block schedule and a 1:1 learning environment. Design effective student assessments, including rubrics to measure success. Integrate Biblical perspectives into the curriculum. Create a classroom environment conducive to learning. Lead the room with calm confidence, setting a polite, fair, and encouraging tone. Establish a culture of learning for all students. Manage classroom procedures and student behavior. Balance technology use with meaningful face‑to‑face interaction. Organize physical space to support the learning process. Communicate with students clearly and effectively. Use instructional strategies that elicit thoughtful responses and engage students in learning. Use varied assessments and provide meaningful feedback. Demonstrate flexibility and responsiveness in the classroom. Weave personal faith, scriptural references, and gospel truths into lessons. Professional Responsibilities Reflect thoughtfully and accurately on teaching. Update records in a timely and accurate manner. Maintain a clear and accurate teacher site in Moodle. Take attendance and mark tardies as appropriate. Communicate proactively and promptly with stakeholders (students, parents, counselors, peer teachers, administration). Participate in mandatory school events (e.g., Open House, dance chaperoning, homecoming, and graduation). Fulfill professional responsibilities such as accreditation documentation and supervision duties with a positive and professional attitude. Support students by: Attending student performances and competitions. Providing extra help and tutoring as needed. Participating in school spirit activities. Writing up to 15 high‑quality college or internship recommendation letters in line with counseling team standards. Grow and develop professionally by engaging in conversations about practice with colleagues and seeking ways to contribute to the ministry and profession. Show Christ‑like professionalism, demonstrating integrity, ethical conduct, a positive attitude, collaboration, logical thinking, and practical decision‑making. Maintain punctuality and attendance at school devotions, in‑service days, and other scheduled engagements. Comply with school regulations and procedures. Model conflict resolution using Matthew 18 principles. Personal Qualifications Evidence of adequate preparation, background, and ability required by the position. Commitment to implement and enforce policies and follow prescribed procedures. Skill to make and effectively communicate timely decisions. Ability to foster creativity and be responsible for creative ideas. Professional Qualifications Teaching experience in a 1:1 learning environment (iPad‑based), including core instructional and learning‑management tools. Commitment to whole‑person formation—mental, spiritual, physical, and academic—and classroom practices that meet students where they are. Current ACSI teaching certificate (or ability to obtain within the required timeframe). Required state teaching credential(s), as applicable. Master’s degree (or related field) in the subject area. Serve as a Christ‑centered role model and mature believer whose life and teaching reflect a commitment to Christian discipleship and the mission of Christian education. Active participation in a local Christian church. Affirm and support the VCS Statement of Faith; demonstrate consistent practice of prayer and ongoing spiritual growth. Christian Role Model Commitment Express a testimony of a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Serve as a Christian role model and consecrated Christian dedicated to the purpose and goals of the Christian school. Understand the philosophy and objectives of Valley Christian Schools. Regularly attend a Christian Bible‑believing church. Agree with the VCS Statement of Faith and commit to daily prayer and spiritual growth. Essential Functions Content‑specific instruction, curriculum development and implementation, spiritual role modeling and mentoring, and professional duties. Non‑Essential Functions Club monitor and/or advisor. Supervisory Responsibilities Assign an area on campus for before‑ or after‑school supervision of students. Fiscal Responsibilities None. Extent of Public Contact Daily contact with teachers, staff, coaches, students, parents, guests, and school administrators. Physical Demands Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment; no heavy lifting. Working Conditions Assigned a classroom in which to conduct class; in most cases, a teacher travels between classrooms.
