Facility Maintenance Technician III (Future Opening)

Purpose of Position Perform preventive maintenance and repair of the Company’s facility infrastructure to maximize availability and provide the highest quality of service for our customers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Dispatch to communities across the state of Alaska to perform preventative and corrective maintenance, repair, quality control inspections, and testing of company facilities (60%). Handle equipment such as HVAC, generators, batteries, UPS systems, rectifiers, fire suppression, and power distribution systems. Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, regulations, and company specifications. Complete established facility‑based maintenance routines designed to keep buildings within design performance conditions. Maintain sites in a neat, tidy, and compliant condition in accordance with occupancy type. Monitor, coordinate, troubleshoot, and perform repairs on electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and building systems. Replace light bulbs, filters, and other consumables as needed. Ensure safety equipment is functional and accessible; maintain sites to support effective operation of mechanical, power, and fire suppression systems. Conduct inspections and support life and safety exercises to ensure safety regulations are met. Assist in setting up or dismantling office equipment, furniture, and machinery, and troubleshoot basic equipment issues. Assist with seasonal tasks such as snow removal or grounds maintenance as needed. Perform routine maintenance or repair of Core Network Equipment (25%). Maintain and update software for scheduling, tracking work orders, equipment, and preventive maintenance. Manage various equipment and technology platforms including monitoring, alarms, proactive troubleshooting, provisioning, and phone support for field technicians. Ensure the highest availability of company facility infrastructure by managing, supporting, and troubleshooting. Interface with vendors as a customer to resolve technical problems and gather technical data (15%). Open and track corrective tickets to resolve problems. Track and inventory maintenance supplies and order materials as needed. Document maintenance activities, ticket tracking, and report equipment issues. Level Definition Position Title: Facility Maintenance Technician III Grade: T07 Additional Job Requirements This is an advanced level position for a Facility Maintenance Technician competent at performing complex tasks. Requires comprehensive knowledge and understanding of HVAC, generators, batteries, light carpentry, and AC & DC power systems, including installation, modifications, and testing procedures. Works with minimal instruction on routine jobs and new assignments, completes tasks accurately and on schedule, and mentors junior technicians. Minimum Qualifications High School diploma or equivalent. Minimum of eight (8) years in a facility operation, maintenance, telecommunications technician, or related background. May be required to complete certifications and courses upon hire (e.g., Defensive Driving). May be required to obtain and maintain a DOT medical card, including DOT‑required drug testing. Ability to travel to rural Alaska communities for several days’ duration. Preferred Qualifications Associate degree in electronics, mechanical HVAC, electrical, or related technical or vocational training. Specialization in operating and maintaining HVAC, DC/AC power systems, generators, and structures designed for remote telecommunication electronics. Telecommunications experience. Other telecom industry or job‑specific certifications. Driving Requirements This position requires driving a company‑owned vehicle, a company‑provided vehicle, or using a personal vehicle on behalf of the company. Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance, a satisfactory driving record, and successfully complete a Defensive Driving course. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Work inside and outside facilities, subject to adverse weather and driving conditions. Rotational and on‑call shifts. May travel up to 50% of the time to facilities throughout Alaska, including into remote rural communities for several days’ duration and sometimes using small aircraft. Must tolerate temperature and weather extremes found in the Alaskan Arctic environment (e.g., –30°F, wind, snow, hail). Daily office tasks involve computer usage, standard office equipment, and paperwork processing. Access items at varying heights. Move, transport, and maneuver equipment and supplies up to 70‑pound loads occasionally, 50‑pound more regularly, and 20‑pound frequently. Maintain balance, coordination, and strength to work on ladders with tools and equipment. Work on uneven or unstable surfaces in weathered conditions. Operate hand tools and connect, separate, and twist multiple smaller items on a daily basis. Visual acuity to inspect and assess details at near, mid, and far ranges. Distinguish colors for driving, identifying cables or electrical components, and safety signage. Auditory acuity to operate equipment and understand voices amid background noise. Perform tasks around high‑power electrical conductors and gas lines. Work areas can be cramped, dark, dusty, damp, wet, sticky, smelly, hot, or cold. May encounter unrestrained animals or pets. Work flexible hours—overtime, on‑call, weekends, holidays, evenings, and before or after normal shift hours. Communicate information and ideas clearly to others. Maintain physical agility and effort to perform job duties safely and effectively. Make valid judgments and decisions. Work well in a team environment with a diverse group of people and customers.
