Preconstruction Engineer Alternative Delivery

SEMA Construction, Inc., named a 2025 Top Workplace , is looking for Civil Engineers with a background in heavy civil construction and/or design to serve as a Preconstruction Engineer in our Centennial, Colorado office. This role will be heavily involved in alternative delivery projects (Progressive Design Build (PDB), Integrated Contracts (IC), Construction Manager/General Contractor (CM/GC) and Design-Build (DB), a background in these different delivery methods is encouraged, but not required. The Preconstruction Engineer plays a critical role in the planning and design phases of construction projects by working with the project team to optimize budget, schedule, and risk. This position is responsible for reviewing design documents, supporting cost estimating, preparing bid packages, and coordinating with project stakeholders. Additionally, this role would involve coordination with the client and project team to help balance the preconstruction phase in alternative delivery projects and pass off to the construction team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyze architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
• Prepare quantity take-offs and support cost estimators for all construction divisions.
• Assist in developing and managing budgets and project timelines during the preconstruction phase.
• Assist in developing construction packaging, phasing, and baseline schedules.
• Support and/or lead bid preparation and subcontractor solicitation processes.
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, owners, and internal teams to resolve design and scope issues.
• Develop and maintain knowledge of market trends, materials, subcontractor pricing, and construction methods.
• Evaluate and recommend value engineering options, constructability solutions, and risk mitigation strategies.
• Organize and maintain project documentation.
• Participate in site visits and feasibility studies when necessary.
• Coordinate with project managers, superintendents, and foreman to ensure project goals, objectives, and expectations are met.
• Assist with contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, and provide client support.
• Processes change orders as needed.
• Coordinate with all sub-contractors for timely completion and quality.
• Prepare presentations for client meetings on alternative delivery projects
• Coordinate with Clients and present material and construction options
• Manage preconstruction phase process on alternative delivery projects, (PDB, CM/GC, CmaR, IC)

Requirements:

• Construction Management or Engineering degree from a four-year university.
• Minimum of five years of project experience in heavy civil construction or civil design.
• Proficiency in software including Microsoft Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Bluebeam.
• Proficiency in Bentley or Autodesk software applications preferred but not required.
• Understanding of construction methods, materials, and project sequencing.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple priorities.
• Applicant must be a self-starter who operates independently and thrives in a busy environment
• Willingness to travel (Approx. 5%)

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $100,000.00 - $125,000.00 per year
