Clinical Laboratory Technician - Core Lab

Job Title: Clinical Lab Professional Location: UAB St. Vincent’s East, Birmingham, AL Work Schedule: 7 x 10‑hour shifts (1:00PM–11:30PM), 7 days on and 7 days off. Job Responsibilities Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria. Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality. Make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving. Prepare, test and evaluate new reagents or controls. Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care. Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures. Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary. Assist with processing of specimens when needed. Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment. Qualifications Minimum: Associate’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Medical Technology. Preferred: 4 years or more of clinical laboratory testing experience. ASCP or AMT certification. Additional Job Standards In lieu of the listed education requirements, non‑traditional degrees with applicable science credits that meet CLIA standards may satisfy the education requirement. Familiarity with laboratory information systems. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Proficient with computers. High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills. Ability to pass a standardized color‑blindness test. Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
