Position Summary

The Rehab Specialist provides individualized rehabilitation services, injury prevention programs, and recovery strategies for Minor League players. Open to qualified physical therapists and athletic trainers, this role works closely with the sports medicine, strength and conditioning, and player development staffs to support player health, continued development, and a safe return to performance. An interprofessional collaborative spirit, effective communication, relationships built on trust, and a player-centered approach are essential. Clinical services are provided within the specialist's professional credentials, licensure, scope of practice, and team medical protocols.

Essential Functions

• Evaluate and monitor injured players and develop individualized rehabilitation programs in collaboration with team physicians and the sports medicine staff, within professional scope of practice.
• Perform movement assessments and prescribe therapeutic exercise to address impairments, build physical capacity, and reduce injury risk.
• Collaborate with physical therapists, athletic trainers, team physicians, strength and conditioning staff, and player development personnel to coordinate care and maintain player development during rehabilitation.
• Apply manual therapy techniques, therapeutic modalities, and recovery interventions appropriate to the player's needs and the specialist's training and scope of practice.
• Maintain timely, accurate medical records, including evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and objective testing, in accordance with MLB and team health protocols.
• Educate players on rehabilitation goals, recovery strategies, mobility, injury prevention, and their role in the return-to-play process.
• Assist with on-field and athletic training room coverage before, during, and after games, including emergency response responsibilities appropriate to credentials, training, and team protocols.
• Communicate injury updates, objective progress, barriers, and readiness for progression to the Assistant Director of Athletic Training and Rehabilitation. Support criteria-based return-to-play decisions and continuity of care across affiliates.

Skill Requirements
• Proficiency in MLB Electronic Medical Record System (AthleteRMS)

• Strong knowledge of sports rehabilitation, therapeutic exercise, injury prevention, and recovery principles applicable to physical therapy or athletic training.
• Experience with movement assessments, manual therapy, progressive exercise prescription, and objective measures used to guide return to play.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with MLB and MiLB health and safety regulations.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
