Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for a night shift position at a Level I/II trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of experience and ventilator management skills.

Details

• Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-07:15)
• Work in adult critical care, including ICUs and general floor units
• Floats within service line and across ICUs and floors as needed per facility requirements
• Weekend requirement of every third weekend
• Utilizes Epic for charting
• Large hospital campus requiring the ability to walk long distances
• Performs airway management including endotracheal tube suctioning, extubation, oral/nasal airway placement, tracheostomy care, and sputum specimen collection
• Administers medications including Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, inhaled Flolan, inhaled steroids, Lidocaine, Nitric Oxide, Pulmicort, Racemic epinephrine, and Xopenex
• Manages nebulizer therapy including hand held, T-piece, trach collar, and ultrasonic delivery
• Provides oxygen therapy including High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
• Performs ventilator management including BiPAP, CPAP, alarm troubleshooting, and weaning from mechanical ventilation
• Interprets arterial blood gases (ABGs)

Requirements

• Current RRT credential required
• BLS certification required
• Missouri Respiratory Care Practitioner License required (pending license accepted); license required if applicable
• Minimum 2 years of experience required as an RRT
• Epic EMR experience required
• Trauma Level II hospital experience required; Trauma Level I and teaching hospital experience preferred
• Experience in a 300+ bed facility preferred
• Bachelor's degree or higher (or actively pursuing) strongly preferred
• Active AARC membership strongly preferred
• Must be comfortable managing mechanically ventilated patients
• Ability to walk long distances across a large hospital campus

Additional Information

• Care for patients with acute and chronic respiratory diseases in a teaching hospital setting
• May be asked to precept respiratory therapy students
• Scrub color requirement: medium to dark gray
• First-time travelers will be considered for this role
• No local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius
• Maximum of 7 days RTO per 13-week contract, with no RTO permitted during the first week of assignment
• Returning travelers must take a 3-month break after an 18-month assignment
• Permanent BJC employees must wait 1 year before returning to any BJC facility as a traveler
• Facility is a short-term acute care, teaching hospital with Level I/II trauma designation
