Controller - $165-175k | for Series A VC-backed Company | Fractional CFO Firm

Bearing Line is a fractional CFO practice serving VC-backed SaaS and AI companies from Seed through Series B. Our clients have collectively raised 9+ figures from top-tier investors. The Role You will own and build the accounting function across our client portfolio. This includes managing external bookkeepers through month-end close, running AP and AR, verifying payroll, and coordinating with CPAs. You take that over entirely and build it into a scalable practice. Start by owning accounting operations across 3-4 clients independently. Slowly add support underneath you to scale further. This is not a staff role - you are building a practice within a growing firm, and your compensation reflects that through alignment to firm's profits (above a healthy base). What You Own Month-end close oversight across multiple SaaS clients in QuickBooks - manage external bookkeepers, field data requests, and ensure every entity is clean before numbers hit a board deck AP and AR - review invoices, enforce controls, drive collections, resolve vendor issues Payroll verification every cycle CPA and compliance coordination - tax filings, insurance renewals, cap table maintenance in Carta, 409A valuations Team buildout - hire and manage junior accounting staff as the practice scales Requirements Active CPA license 5+ years as Controller, Accounting Manager, or Partner at an accounting firm serving US businesses Multi-client or multi-entity experience - you have managed accounting across multiple companies, not just departments within one Experience managing or overseeing external bookkeepers SaaS revenue familiarity - you can reconcile a payment processor to the GL Why This Role Most Controller roles give you one company and an inherited team.
