Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) night shift position requiring prior travel experience and neuro/ortho trauma background.

Details

• Surg/Neuro/Ortho PCU in a 25-bed hospital unit
• Patient population includes heavy neuro trauma, neurosurgery, craniectomy, and orthopedic cases
• RN to patient ratio of 1:5-6
• Night shift, 4x12-hour shifts, 48 hours/week (36 hours/week can be accommodated)
• Uses Epic EMR
• Administers Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium drips (no titration)
• Uses specialty equipment including telemetry, left equipment, chest tubes, and Airvo
• Weekend rotation every other or every third weekend depending on staffing/census
• No on-call requirements
• Required to float across Iowa Methodist MC, Iowa Lutheran, and Methodist West campuses

Requirements

• Active IA RN license or compact/multistate license required
• Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA or ARC)
• NIHSS certification preferred, can be obtained during onboarding
• Minimum 24 months of Medical Surgical, IMCU, Stepdown, or Progressive Care experience in a hospital setting required
• Neurology/neurosurgery care experience required
• Orthopedic care experience required
• Trauma Level I experience highly preferred
• EKG/strip reading and telemetry experience required
• Experience with Heparin, PCA, and 3% Sodium drips required
• Epic EMR experience required
• De-escalation certification (CPI, MOAB, MAB, or SAMA) preferred
• Must have completed at least one prior travel assignment within the last 12 months
• Driver's license required for consideration
• Professional reference from a supervisor/charge nurse/manager within the past 24 months preferred

Additional Information

• Provide bedside nursing care to neuro trauma, neurosurgery, and orthopedic patients on a progressive care unit
• Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility based on driver's license address
• Required to work 1-2 of 3 winter holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's) unless the unit is closed
• Limited to one day off request during the periods of 11/26-11/30 and 12/23-1/2 regardless of holidays worked
• Navy blue scrubs required
• Past UnityPoint Health employees (FTE or PRN float pool) are restricted from travel assignments at any UPH market facility within 12 months of separation
• First-time travelers are not eligible for this position
