Who We Are
The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony represents descendants of three Great Basin Indigenous peoples: the Numu (Northern Paiute) , Newe (Western Shoshone) , and Washeshu (Washoe) . These communities lived in harmony with the land for generations before European contact, following seasonal cycles and forming small, efficient social groups for survival.
Each group's name means "The People" in their own language, reflecting their deep cultural identity and connection to the Earth. They maintained strong traditions, respected neighboring tribes, and engaged in trade throughout the region. Today, the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony continues to honor these traditions while supporting the well-being, culture, and future of its tribal community. What You'll HandleThe Tax Clerk provides essential clerical and accounting support to the Tax Manager to help ensure accurate, timely collection, auditing, and recording of tribal taxes under RSIC ordinances and codes.
Key responsibilities include:- Maintain organized files, records, correspondence, and scheduling; set up new tenant working files
- Answer phones and greet tenants/associates; provide general information on rent, business licenses, and sales & use tax questions
- Issue monthly billing invoices; assist with annual business licenses and sales tax permits
- Prepare Accufund requisitions, purchase orders, and related administrative forms
- Support reporting for new/current tenants; assist with construction project presentations related to use taxes
- Perform in-house review of sales/vendor documents; reconcile deposits and balance sheet accounts
- Coordinate professionally with tribal programs, community partners, federal agencies, and business owners Required qualifications:
- High school diploma/GED
- 2+ years administrative/clerical experience, including 1+ year accounting/bookkeeping
- Strong written/verbal communication and customer service
- Proficiency with Windows-based office tools (Excel, Word, WordPerfect, Publisher, Outlook)

Your day runs Monday–Friday, 8:00 am–5:00 pm in Reno, with a steady mix of front-desk support and focused desk work. You'll start by checking messages and organizing the day's paperwork, then shift between helping tenants who call or stop in and keeping files current. Midday often includes preparing routine forms in Accufund and assembling documents for review, with time set aside to check deposit activity and ensure records align. As deadlines approach, you'll help keep annual licensing and permit items moving and support materials needed for tax-related presentations. Throughout the day, you'll coordinate with internal programs and outside contacts, keeping communication clear and professional so work stays on track.
