BAE Systems is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to support our work as a prime contractor on high-profile U.S. Navy facility development, recapitalization, and construction projects. This position is responsible for conceptual development, code compliance reviews, and ensuring SSP specific requirements are incorporated into the mechanical design portion of conceptual, preliminary and final design documentation. This includes both BAE conceptual designs and designs created by other architectural engineering firm hired as the responsible engineer for the project.

About the program
Our organization has supported the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Program (SSP) continually since the program's inception in the 1950s. SSP developed the first sea-based, underwater-launched Strategic Weapon System (SWS), a defense system that is truly critical to our national security. For more than six decades, SSP has maintained and upgraded this weapon system and BAE has been there every step of the way. The sea-based SWS is the ultimate stealthy weapon system and as the first leg of the U.S. nuclear triad. With over 70% of our nation's nuclear arsenal its importance to maintaining world peace cannot be overstated. The development of Columbia, the most advanced nuclear-powered, nuclear-armed submarine ever designed, as well the next D5LE2 weapon system is under way and will begin to be rolled out over the next decade. The Navy expects this system to be operational through 2084, meaning the program will have a total life span of more than 120 years. Position Description and Responsibilities:
BAE Systems is seeking an experienced senior mechanical engineer to support our work as a prime contractor on high-profile U.S Navy weapon systems projects. This senior mechanical will support the Navy Program Manager responsible for Strategic Systems Planning (SSP) Facilities Acquisition at TRIDENT Submarine Bases, primarily at Kings Bay, Georgia and Bangor, Washington, in developing the assigned projects from concept to operational stage. This senior position is responsible for developing conceptual mechanical system requirements, estimated HVAC loads, estimated Bill of Materials, and facility requirements documentation. The selected candidate will provide technical peer reviews of architectural/engineering design submittals, support the develop of Facilities Design Criteria & Facilities Evaluation Testing Criteria, and perform constructability reviews of construction design documentation. Candidate is also responsible to conduct/prepare engineering study reports and will make recommendations to solve facilities issues. The senior mechanical engineer will have experience in the application of various HVAC related equipment to ensure the most effective system type is selected for the design of the facility. The senior engineer will have working knowledge of ASHREA Standards such as 62.1, 90.1 and 183, including the life cycle cost analysis and ventilation calculations.

The senior engineer is responsible for providing input to comprehensive MILCON documentation and the mechanical portion of preliminary construction cost estimates.

This position will require the candidate to provide mechanical system guidance associated with specific SSP facility requirements for construction documentation to ensure the constructed facility performs the necessary function of mission. A limited amount of travel to off-site locations could be required.
Position may require generating a moderate amount of correspondence to internal/external customers, other BAE sector government property administrators, and other architectural/engineering personnel. Preparation of presentations for internal/external peers, and customers.

Candidate will also be required to manage and/or support other disciple tasks as needed. Must also work with and support corporate Safety, Health, Environment (SHE) personnel to maintain a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.

Required Education, Experience, & Skills
Education and years of related/relevant professional work experience required: Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET Accredited program ant at least six years of related/relevant professional work experience or OR equivalent education and related facility mechanica experience required.

Additional skills/experience required:

• Professional work experience with mechanical HVAC, plumbing and gas & fluid distribution systems including HVAC equipment sizing and selection, building domestic water & sewage system sizing, piping sizing calculations.
• Experience performing requirements and constructability reviews of detailed design submittal packages
• At least 8 years of related professional work experience.
• Must be proficient with MS Office Suite programs including Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams
• Desire to attain a Professional Engineer License once in the position.

Technical Knowledge and Proficiency

• Professional knowledge and application of ASHREA 62.1 and 90.1 Standards
• Knowledge of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS)
• Experience in the design, development or implementation of MILCON facilities
• Experience was building energy modelling software, such as Trane Trace, Carrier HAP

Communication

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Good writing skills to document facility requirements and make the necessary reports and correspondence.

Professionalism

• Excellent interpersonal skills used when interfacing, coordinating, and negotiating with colleagues, auditors, customers and vendors.
• Understanding of project managerial relationships and operations.
• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment and make sound decisions while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
• Good planning, time management and organization skills

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills

• Professional working knowledge of ASHRAE Standards, ASME Codes, & International Mechanical Code
• Professional experience performing mechanical calculations associated with ventilation system sizing
• Professional experience of Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS)
• Previous experience in creating design drawings and supporting calculations associated industrial facilities
• Professional Engineer License

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $118095 - $200762

However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
