Adjunct Faculty - CLANG 1701: American Sign Language I; Fall Semester 2026; In-person, On-Campus No Office Location Part time JR101691 The Opportunity Lesley University's Department of Social Sciences and Humanities is seeking a highly qualified adjunct faculty member to teach: CLANG 1701 - American Sign Language I; Fall Semester 2026; Tuesdays/Fridays 8:00 am - 9:15 am; In-person, On-Campus. Course Description: This course will introduce basic skills in American Sign Language (ASL) and fingerspelling. ASL training will include learning how facial expressions serve as punctuation in a manual language. Topics will include Deaf culture and its criticism of deafness as viewed by the medical profession as well as the education of Deaf children. Qualities and Capabilities A successful candidate will have: Master's degree in American Sign Language, Deaf Studies, or a closely related field (required); PhD (preferred) Experience teaching ASL at the college level Native or near-native proficiency in American Sign Language Demonstrated knowledge of Deaf culture, Deaf history, and contemporary issues affecting the Deaf community Demonstrated commitment to communicative, student-centered, inclusive, and equitable language teaching practices Ability to integrate cultural competence into language instruction Experience using learning management systems and instructional technology to support teaching and learning Why Lesley Located in the heart of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Lesley University is highly regarded for its graduate and undergraduate programs in the human arts of education, the arts, and applied social sciences.
