Associate Athletic Trainer

Description UC San Diego is seeking an Associate Athletic Trainer to serve as a key member of the Sports Medicine team and Athletic Performance Unit. The role will lead year‑round care for the 24‑sport intercollegiate program, provide injury prevention, rehabilitation, return‑to‑sport protocols, and supervise athletic training students. Responsibilities Provide comprehensive athletic injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation services for scholar‑athletes. Develop and implement return‑to‑sport programs customized to individual athlete needs. Lead injury referrals to medical personnel and manage follow‑up care. Oversee reconditioning and rehabilitation on referral from physicians using appropriate physical agents and therapeutic devices. Collaborate with performance coordinators on baseline injury prevention measures and return‑to‑sport assessments. Participate in initial case‑management meetings with coaches and support staff to coordinate injury recovery. Create and enforce policies and protocols for equipment usage, injury prevention, and treatment screening. Serve as direct supervisor and preceptor for athletic training students from collegiate programs. Exercise administrative leadership of related sports‑medicine programs and apply evidence‑based practice for clinical problem solving. Qualifications Minimum of seven years of progressive experience in high‑performance sport settings (Division I, professional, international or national level) under a NATABOC‑certified Athletic Trainer. Bachelor's degree in a related area with at least five years of experience under a NATA‑certified Athletic Trainer or an equivalent combination of experience and training. Proficiency in computer programs relevant to job duties, including Smartabase and Catapult. Advanced knowledge of athletic injury prevention, therapeutic modalities, devices, and first‑aid protocols. Demonstrated ability to use physical agents and modalities in athletic injury care and treatment. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills for managing confidential athlete information. Advanced knowledge of electronic medical records systems and local medical facilities for emergencies and referrals. Current understanding of NCAA or NAIA rules and regulations applicable to the athletic program. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Knowledge of procurement processes and budget requirements for athletic equipment and supplies. Ability to prioritize tasks, multi‑task effectively, and make sound judgments. Experience supervising staff and student employees, including motivational, delegating, and evaluation skills. Experience in developing mental health screenings, emergency plans, and working with students of concern. Required current certification in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED, or equivalent, and a good‑standing NATABOC certification. Knowledge of sound teaching techniques for training students and coaching principles for injury prevention. Demonstrated professionalism in attire, attitude, and communication. Special Conditions Job offer contingent upon satisfactory background check clearance. Position requires being a mandated reporter of child abuse or neglect per California law. Position is also a campus security authority under the Clery Act. Salary and Benefits Annual full pay range: $79,200 – $143,400, prorated if the appointment is less than 100%. Pay will be determined by experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure, certifications, and organizational needs.
