ACLU-WA is seeking a fulltime Development Coordinator to support key development activities that strengthen meaningful donor relationships, including the coordination of donor cultivation events, portfolio management and communications. This position is supervised by the development director and part of the Development department. The Development Coordinator will collaborate closely with Development team members, as well as colleagues across ACLU-WA departments, other ACLU affiliates, and ACLU nationwide. The Development department focuses on cultivating and building deep connections with donors who support the defense and expansion of civil liberties in Washington State. Grounded in the principles of Community Centric Fundraising, the team connects supporters to ACLU-WA’s mission through thoughtful engagement that inspires, guides and grows generous philanthropic partnerships. Duties & Responsibilities Draft, schedule and coordinate development-related communications (letters, emails, invitations) for the development team and others. Create and manage layout and distribution of communications using email distribution platforms. Plan, schedule, and facilitate donor events (in-person or virtual), including coordinating logistics, drafting content, and managing day‑of‑activities to ensure a smooth and engaging donor experience. Support development programs and community centric fundraising campaigns. Manage donor portfolio tracking and make and coordinate assignments within the donor database. Create and generate donor reports, checking for accuracy; complete bulk uploads and updates; complete donor updates including changes to assignments and other donor related information. Collaborate across departments and ACLU National to coordinate data and participation in campaigns Maintain flexibility to support emerging organizational and team needs, contributing to special projects that advance development goals. Participate in cross‑functional teamwork to support initiatives related to fundraising, donor engagement and stewardship. Perform additional duties related to development coordination, as assigned and within the scope and level of this position.
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
Commitment to EDIB with a demonstrated understanding, awareness and willingness to engage in the transformative work of how structural racism and oppression manifest in philanthropy. Three (3) years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, communications, and/or event planning. Ability to actively challenge assumptions and traditional approaches to development work along with an understanding of community centric fundraising concepts that challenge donor centric models. Proven ability to manage complex projects, meeting deadlines by engaging stakeholders and providing role responsibilities and role clarity utilizing effective communication strategies. Ability to work independently and collaboratively, communicating effectively across multiple teams. Demonstrated comfort managing up and laterally to support team alignment and accountability. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow through. Experience with client relationship management databases, generating reports and maintaining accurate records (Salesforce experience preferred). Proficiency with email (Constant Contact), project management platforms (Asana), and the Microsoft Office suite with the ability to perform mail merges and excel functions. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience writing donor communications is a plus. Demonstrated capacity to solve problems, prioritize work and complete tasks with resourcefulness and an appropriate level of supervision. This position is required to work in the office a minimum of two (2) days per week. MENTAL DEMAND: Decision‑making, high emotional intelligence, giving and receiving feedback and building trusting relationships. The nature of this work can be emotionally demanding and requires thoughtful and clear communication and resilience. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The ACLU‑WA observes a hybrid workstyle, with some staff working primarily remotely while others work in the office several days a week. Our office is generally open between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and is located in downtown Seattle. The physical demands and work environment described below represent those required and encountered by an employee to perform the essential functions of this job. The ACLU‑WA seeks to provide equitable and competitive compensation for attracting and retaining staff with the skill, judgment, and perseverance to confront challenges to civil rights and civil liberties and build a state where all people live with dignity and equity, enjoying freedoms unimpeded by racial and economic injustice and other forms of oppression. We provide a mix of compensation for staff that is intended to address today’s needs and allow planning for tomorrow and into retirement. As such, the ACLU‑WA has adopted a salary scale for measuring how to best compensate its employees. The hourly wage for this position is $42.56 to $50.97. A range indicates the intention to accommodate those with varying years of relevant experience, as determined by the salary scale.BENEFITS
Generous benefits include three weeks of vacation, twenty‑three sick days, twelve holidays and 2‑weeks paid office closures, employer‑paid professional development, fully paid employee medical, dental, vision, and disability insurance, an employer contributed retirement plan, student loan reimbursement, family care and adoption assistance, life insurance, and an ORCA card, the regional transportation pass. ACLU‑WA provides laptops, home office supplies, certain equipment, and technology support. You will need an effective Wi‑Fi connection and a way to communicate by phone.
