Role Description This full-time Appraiser role is a hybrid position based in Washington, DC, with a mix of on-site client visits and work-from-home responsibilities. Day-to-day tasks include meeting with clients, examining and inspecting personal property, working with fine art, decorative art, antiques, and estates, detailed photography of personal property, excellent note-taking regarding condition, researching art and antiques to determine comparable sales and values, and preparing detailed appraisal reports in line with industry and regulatory standards. The Appraiser will communicate findings to the Senior Appraisers, respond to questions and revision requests, and maintain organized records, photographs, notes, and documentation. The role also involves staying current with local market trends, relevant laws and regulations, and professional appraisal methodologies to ensure high-quality, defensible valuations. Qualifications Strong analytical and quantitative skills Excellent written and verbal communication skills for communicating professionally with high net-worth clients and preparing clear appraisal reports Solid organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate documentation. Comfort with fieldwork activities such as on-site property inspections, photography, and condition assessments. Proficiency with appraisal software, office productivity tools, and online data sources for market research and report preparation. Attention to detail and commitment to ethical standards, regulatory compliance, and professional discretion. State appraisal licensure or certification (or eligibility to obtain), with knowledge of USPAP and relevant local regulations. Experience in personal property appraising, working professionally with fine art and antiques, or a related field is beneficial; a relevant associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred.
