Duties and Responsibilities As an Administrative Hearing Officer II, you will conduct administrative review hearings under oath to determine whether driver licenses may be reinstated in accordance with Florida Statutes and FLHSMV policies and procedures. This role typically involves handling more advanced hearings, including complex restricted license (hardship) hearings and medical reexaminations, with additional types of hearings conducted as needed.Responsibilities include providing paralegal-style assistance to BAR attorneys through legal research and information gathering, communicating with Department members, drivers, and the public to address inquiries and explain processes and statutory requirements, managing a complex caseload with strict deadlines, preparing and maintaining case files, researching case backgrounds, reviewing and evaluating testimony and evidence, analyzing information from various sources to make well‑supported decisions, and writing and issuing final orders documenting hearing outcomes. This includes review of driver history records, investigation reports, FLHSMV policies and procedures, administrative rules, and Florida Statutes. * Possess discretion and integrity - must be able to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality. * Have the ability to proficiently operate various technology applications, such as Microsoft Office, and possess the ability to learn new software. Preferred Qualifications Preference will be given to candidates with the following: * Experience demonstrating skills equivalent to that of a paralegal or legal assistant. This work experience may include, but need not be limited to: conducting legal research, preparing correspondence, managing case files, applying the law to facts to reach appropriate decisions, locating and interpreting statutes, handling legal documents, verifying documents for compliance, etc. * Experience analyzing and interpreting information from different sources to make decisions and draw conclusions on various subject matter. Additional preference will be given to those with experience analyzing and interpreting Florida Statutes. * Experience related to administrative hearings. * Experience in customer service dealing with customer questions or complaints. * Experience working in a legal office setting. Job Related Requirements * High School Diploma or GED equivalent. * Occasional overnight travel may be required. * May be required to lift boxes weighing up to 30 pounds. * The position you are applying is subject to a Level 2 background check, along with Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance, to include a fingerprint-based check of the criminal records of the FBI, as a condition of employment pursuant to Chapter 110.1127, 435 and 943, Florida Statutes. Please note that, since this position requires CJIS clearance, the Department will have access to all an applicant's criminal and juvenile delinquency records, even those that have been sealed or expunged. * The position requires the incumbent to have and maintain a valid driver's license in good standing. General Information * The elements of the selection process may include a skill assessment and/or oral interview. * Applicants being considered for employment will be required to submit to a fingerprint-based background investigation, which will include a check of the criminal history records of the FBI. Fingerprints and associated information/biometrics will be retained in the FBI's Next Generation Identification (NGI) system and fingerprints may continue to be compared against fingerprints submitted to or retained by NGI. * FLHSMV employees are paid once a month on the last workday of each month.
