Registered Nurse Emergency Department

The Registered Nurse in the Emergency Room (ER) provides skilled nursing care to patients with a wide range of acute conditions. This role involves patient assessment, management of dysrhythmias, administration of emergency medications, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care in a fast-paced ER environment. The nurse must be proficient in phlebotomy and IV placement and able to manage complex cases including multisystem organ dysfunction and procedural sedation. At least one year of ER or related experience is preferred, with required certifications including BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NIHSS. Responsibilities:

• Perform patient assessments and interpret dysrhythmias in the ER setting.
• Manage patients with multisystem organ dysfunction/failure and administer blood products.
• Provide central line care and management.
• Perform phlebotomy and start IVs as required competencies.
• Administer continuous IV paralytics, sedation, emergency medications, and IV vasopressors.
• Conduct procedural sedation and manage stroke (CVA) patients with appropriate isolation precautions.
• Document patient care and treatments using Epic electronic health records system.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure comprehensive patient care.
• Float to other units as census and patient needs require.

• Current Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in Emergency Department or related acute care setting (first-time nurses accepted).
• BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification.
• NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification.
• Competency in phlebotomy and IV placement.
• Proficiency with Epic electronic medical record system preferred.

• Experience with blood product administration and central line management.
• Knowledge of and experience with continuous IV paralytics and sedation.
• Familiarity with emergency medication protocols and procedural sedation techniques.
• Ability to interpret and manage complex dysrhythmias.

• Floating to other units when census warrants.
• Every other weekend work required.
• Minimal return-to-office restrictions.
• Mandatory competency in phlebotomy and IV placement.
• Work environment includes mixed/shared acuity patient ratios (1:5).

• Alternating shifts between 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM start times.
• Block scheduling accommodations may be attempted but are not guaranteed.
• Shift assignments based on department needs and patient census.
