ELECTRICIAN - HOBBY AIRPORT

Position Overview Position: Electrician – HAS Maintenance/General Maintenance Services – Hobby Airport Workdays & Hours: Varied (shift work, including rotation, weekends, holidays). Subject to change. Purpose of Division The purpose of Houston Airport System (HAS) Maintenance, General Maintenance Services Business Unit is to effectively deliver self‑performed maintenance services at each of the three HAS airports. Purpose of the Position The Electrician is responsible for troubleshooting, maintaining, managing, and upgrading existing electromechanical systems to ensure an economical and safe distribution of electricity. This includes journeyman level electrical work, maintaining terminal and support building distribution equipment, lighting systems, and various electrical devices in accordance with NEC, NFPA, and FAA Advisory Circulars. The role acts as a first responder to emergency calls involving electrical failures and shutdowns. Responsibilities include managing airside and landside lighting, and may be assigned duties at all HAS facilities including IAH, HOU, and EFD. Responsibilities Interpret blueprints, sketches, schematics, and design specifications. Apply knowledge of National Electrical Codes and use electrical tools, meters, and materials in a commercial setting. Work with high voltage (15 KV), primary distribution, emergency generators, control systems, preventative maintenance programs, UPS, and PLC. Troubleshoot, maintain, manage, and upgrade existing electromechanical, electrical, and electronic installations. Research and analyze causes of failures; repair, replace, and install new equipment/components. Provide preventive maintenance to ensure safe and clean operating conditions. Prepare and update records, logs, and reports related to work performed. Respond to emergency calls for electrical failures and shutdowns. Organize, schedule, and monitor work assignments. Research technical product specifications. Compare and evaluate product prices from vendors to determine the most competitive bid. Assist in inventory control management of electrical parts and components. Work Environment The position involves considerable physical exertion, including climbing ladders, lifting heavy objects (up to 80 pounds), and maintaining awkward positions. Exposure to extreme temperatures, air pollution, noise, chemicals, and potential short‑term disabling conditions is possible. Minimum Requirements Education: High School degree or GED certificate. Experience: No journeyman level experience required. Certification/License: Valid State of Texas Journeyman Electrician License. Valid Texas driver’s license required; Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be required. Must obtain required security badge access, including CBP access, within six months from the hire date. Preferences Journeyman Electrician License for 5+ years. Knowledge of airfield lighting materials and applications. Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL). Veteran status is a preference. Safety Impact Position: Yes – subject to random drug testing and assignment drug testing if promoted. Pay Grade: 18. Salary: Determined by qualifications and comparative rates.
