SUMMARY
This position provides engineering support and project management for large capital projects and cost reduction initiatives. Has a fundamental responsibility to ensure product safety and quality as it applies to all the duties listed below.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Includes but is not limited to the following; other duties may be assigned.PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT
Manufacturing Engineering Projects (Scope, cost, justification, and timing). Cost Reduction: workflow optimizations to reduce pack labor, secondary packaging and freight cost analysis for Silgan plastic bottle plants in US and Canada. Identify and implement productivity improvements. Develop an infrastructure plan to achieve standardization of utilities at each production plant (compressed air, chilled water, tower water, and electrical distribution). Provide plant engineering support as required. Provide engineering, PPE, or training solutions to high exposure areas based on near miss or accident report. Development of training, documentation for equipment and best demonstrated manufacturing methodology; preventive maintenance schedules. Support the design, improvement, and fabrication of internally developed and purchased blow molding and auxiliary equipment. Food Safety All employees are required to understand and follow all Quality Food Safety Management System (QFSMS) policies and procedures. In addition, employees are responsible for reporting problems with the QFSMS to a supervisor or manager.QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Required: 1-5 years material handling design, installation, and startup experience with emphasis on lightweight HDPE, PVC, PP, and PET parts. Preferred: Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Excel and Project). Drawing Skills: 2D CAD drawing skills for plant layouts and equipment requests. 3D modeling capability is a plus. Industrial Electricity and Controls Basic knowledge of industrial power distribution. Basic understanding of ladder logic and control systems. Pneumatic control design is a plus. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, or Electrical) is preferred, or a certificate from a four‑year college or university in a related field is desired. Strong knowledge of injection molding processes is a plus.LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of all levels of employees and customers. The ability to retain confidential information is essential to this position.MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Familiar with business financial concepts such as profit vs. margin.REASONING ABILITY
Ability to investigate and define problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve a variety of problems in situations where only limited standardization exists. This position requires exceptional judgment skills. The ability to prioritize activities and handle multiple tasks is essential to this position.COMPUTER SKILLS
The ability to work effectively in a Microsoft Windows environment (Word and Excel).PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, frequently sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is climate-controlled year around. The noise level is usually quiet; on the manufacturing floor it is loud, and hearing protection is required. Personal protective equipment required at all times on the manufacturing floor: safety glasses and hearing protection.
