Position Title Protection & Automation Mechanical Engineer / Industrial & Systems Engineer – Spring – Summer Co‑Op (January 2027) based in Wendell, NC. Overview Transform the everyday with us! The Electrification and Automation (EA) division of Siemens Smart Infrastructure provides a full range of energy distribution systems and solutions for customers across all markets and channels. As a co‑op, you’ll support reliable power distribution grids used today while gaining exposure to our Future Grids technologies that are shaping the power systems of tomorrow. Responsibilities Rotate through Protection & Automation teams, including Solutions Engineering Design and Panel Assembly Workshop (PAWS), gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle while supporting both design and manufacturing activities. Solutions Engineering Design: Translate electrical schematics and customer requirements into mechanical panel designs, panel layouts, cutouts, mounting arrangements, and component integration; develop and revise 3D CAD models and assemblies; create and maintain Bills of Materials; perform basic heat dissipation and ventilation considerations; support design reviews and collaborate with electrical and systems engineers. Panel Assembly Workshop (PAWS): Support the assembly of protection and automation panels using 2D drawings and 3D models; assist with wiring, routing, and component installation; develop 3D routing harnesses; collaborate with technicians to troubleshoot design‑to‑build gaps; participate in continuous improvement of manufacturability, quality, and assembly processes. Qualifications Basic Qualifications: Current student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial & Systems Engineering. Enrolled with the North Carolina State University co‑op program and cannot graduate prior to September 2027. Ability to work full‑time (40 hours per week) during the Spring and Summer 2027 semesters. Located within 50 miles of Wendell, NC (no relocation or housing support). Legally authorized to work in the United States permanently. On‑site work requirements vary by team placement. Preferred Qualifications: Familiarity with CAD tools such as NX, AutoCAD, or SolidWorks. Interest in industrial control panels, electrical enclosures, or thermal design. Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn about protection and automation systems in the power industry. Benefits Hourly pay of $25.00 per hour for first‑time interns, $25.50 per hour for returning interns; wage may vary based on budget and candidate experience.
