Location of Workplace: Main UNCW Campus Brief Summary of Work for this Position: The Registered Nurse functions as a member of a clinical team inthe provision of healthcare in a fast-paced college health center.Responsibilities include obtaining pertinent medical informationduring check-in; educating patients; providing care and treatmentconsistent with nursing practice and theory; administeringImmunizations and allergy shots; and performing basic laboratorytests. The nurse must demonstrate the ability to accurately assesa patient's medical condition and may assume a lead role in theclinic whenever necessary. Additional responsibilities include serving in the nurse triagerotation, providing backup support to laboratory services,including the performance and processing of commonly ordered clinictests. The nurse also performs key administrative tasks such asprocessing referrals in coordination with the medical records unit,assisting with prior authorizations for insurance, and supportingan assigned physician or mid-level provider through patientcommunication, care coordination, sharing normal lab results, andfacilitating follow-up. The nurse may also draft forms for providerreview and approval, including emergency department andcommunicable disease documentation.
