Position OverviewWe are seeking a Physician (Occupational Medicine) to join our team at the Naval Health Clinic Charleston, located in Charleston, South Carolina.
This role is situated within the Directorate of Clinical Support's Occupational Medicine Branch at the clinic. The working hours are Monday through Friday, with specific hours to be determined.
This opportunity is part of a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) initiative aimed at recruiting and appointing qualified individuals to competitive service positions within the Department of Defense.
This position is open to the general public, specifically U.S. Citizens, Nationals, or individuals who owe allegiance to the United States.

Key Responsibilities- Conduct various types of occupational physical examinations, including pre-placement, medical surveillance, medical qualification, disability retirement, fitness for duty, and other specialized employee assessments as needed.
- Collaborate with facility and community resources to deliver comprehensive work-related care to employees.
- Inform management of examination results and recommend suitable work restrictions or accommodations.
- Interpret ancillary test results to identify potential occupational diseases or complicating personal health issues.
- Diagnose conditions discovered during occupational medical examinations and refer for follow-up evaluations as necessary.
- Assess and treat on-the-job illnesses and injuries, ensuring stabilization and transfer for those with urgent or life-threatening conditions.
- Conduct regular worksite visits.
- Develop and manage medical surveillance and qualification programs.
- Participate as a member of the professional medical staff, providing advisory and consultative services in various meetings, committees, conferences, and boards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.

To qualify, candidates must meet the educational and experiential criteria outlined below. Experience includes both paid and unpaid work, such as volunteer roles through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, community, student, social). All qualifying experience will be credited, including volunteer work. Your resume should clearly detail your relevant experience; if qualifying through education, transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Physician (Occupational Medicine)- Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, or an equivalent degree from an accredited institution in the U.S. or Canada. This degree must be recognized by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, or the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation. For foreign medical degrees, equivalency to U.S. accredited schools must be demonstrated through permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. (Note: Transcripts or proof of foreign equivalency must be included with your application.)
- Licensure: Candidates must hold a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or a U.S. territory.
- Graduate Training: After obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, candidates must have at least one year of supervised clinical experience, such as a one-year internship or the first year of a residency program in an accredited hospital or institution.
Applicants must have successfully completed accredited residency training in the relevant specialty (Preventive Medicine, Aerospace Medicine, Occupational Medicine) and possess equivalent experience and training totaling at least four years. Experience cannot substitute for the required residency training for the specified specialty.
If selected for the Physician position, please note that a salary quote will not be provided during the initial job offer. The salary determination process will commence after the job offer is accepted, involving the Activity Compensation Panel to establish your starting salary based on base pay and market pay. The salary for physician roles is tiered according to specialty, grade, and location.
