IT Support Intern

Building Blocks Facades is a vertically integrated facade company. We design, engineer, manufacture, and install complex GFRC, UHPC, and specialty facade systems for commercial construction projects that most contractors will not take on.

The IT Support Intern is the first point of contact for day-to-day technology at our Merritt Island headquarters. You will work alongside our internal IT lead and our managed IT partner, resolving what can be resolved on the spot and escalating the rest with the detail needed to fix it quickly.

You will own the help desk on your days in the office, and the device side of onboarding and offboarding: procurement requests, setup, tracking, and return. This is real responsibility, with real mentorship, at a company that is building its systems right now.

Help Desk

• Running the help desk on your days on site: tickets, walk-up requests, and email, with every request logged, tracked, and closed out.

• Troubleshooting first-line issues: password resets and multi-factor sign-in, Microsoft 365, laptop performance, printers, Wi-Fi, peripherals, and conference room equipment.

• Escalating what you cannot resolve to our IT lead or managed IT partner, with what you tried, what you saw, and who is affected.

• Writing how-to guides and FAQs for recurring issues, so the same question does not keep becoming the same ticket.

Onboarding: Device Procurement and Setup

• Coordinating with HR on start dates, roles, and work locations so equipment is ordered in time and ready on day one.

• Submitting and tracking laptop and peripheral purchase requests against the company standard and approval process.

• Setting up new laptops: user accounts, standard software, security and management tools, email, and printers.

• Walking each new hire through a first-day tech orientation: signing in, multi-factor setup, core systems, and how to get help.

Offboarding: Device Return

• Coordinating equipment return with HR and the departing employee’s manager, including return shipping for remote and field staff.

• Confirming with the IT lead that accounts and access are disabled on schedule, every time.

• Inspecting, wiping, and preparing returned devices for redeployment, or flagging them for repair or retirement.

Asset Tracking

• Keeping an accurate inventory of company laptops and equipment: assigned user, serial number, condition, and warranty.

• Running periodic audits so the record matches what is actually on desks, in storage, and in the field.

• Keeping spare equipment staged and ready for new hires and replacements.

Required

• Currently enrolled in, or recently completed, a program in information technology, computer science, information systems, cybersecurity, or a related field. Equivalent hands-on experience is considered.

• Working knowledge of Windows and Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint), and comfort troubleshooting hardware, software, and basic networking.

• A clear, patient communicator who can explain a fix to someone who is not technical, and stay calm with someone who is frustrated.

• Organized and reliable. You close the loop on every request and keep records clean.

• Sound judgment and discretion. You will handle devices and accounts that hold confidential company and employee information.

• Available on site in Merritt Island Monday through Wednesday, with reliable transportation.

• Able to lift and move equipment up to 25 pounds.

Preferred

• Prior help desk, school IT, or retail tech support experience, including use of a ticketing system.

• Familiarity with Microsoft Entra ID, Intune, or other device management tools.

• Comfort with macOS as well as Windows.

• CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft certifications, completed or in progress.

WHO THIS ROLE IS NOT FOR

We would rather be direct now than waste your time later.

• If you are looking for a remote internship, this is not it. The work is physical: devices, desks, and people in the room.

• If you like fixing things but not writing down what you did, our standard will feel tedious. It is how the next person, and our IT partner, picks up where you left off.

• If you would rather avoid a frustrated coworker than help them, this role will be uncomfortable. Help desk is a people job as much as a technical one.

• If you expect a large IT department around you, understand that we have not built that yet. You will work with an internal lead and an outside partner, and take ownership early.

• If Monday through Wednesday on site in Merritt Island does not fit your schedule, we should not start the process.

LOCATION AND SCHEDULE

Based on site at our headquarters at 1210 Nautical Way, Merritt Island, Florida, three days per week, Monday through Wednesday, during standard office hours. Specific hours can be arranged around a class schedule, but the role requires in-person presence on those days.

COMPENSATION AND PATH TO FULL-TIME

This is a paid internship at a competitive hourly rate, with all hours worked tracked and paid. Compensation is discussed openly early in the process so neither side wastes time.

This internship is designed as a path to a full-time role, not a seasonal placement. It runs six months, with a check-in at 90 days and a formal conversion review around month five, so a full-time offer can be made before the internship ends. Interns who are clearly ready may convert sooner. Where more runway is needed, the internship may be extended rather than decided too early.
