Job Summary:

The Director of Respiratory Care/Instructor is responsible for: (1) direction, management and administration of the Respiratory Care AAS Program; and (2) teaching courses in the program. The Director is further expected to pursue ongoing formal training to maintain and upgrade his/her professional, instructional and administrative capabilities.

The Director provides direct supervision to: full-time Director of Clinical Education, and any teaching faculty and adjunct clinical faculty in the Respiratory Care Program.

This position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Academic and Student Affairs. It is classified as a Faculty Member of the Professional Staff Association (PSA).

This is a full-time faculty position that requires the director to work at least thirty (30) days during the summer every year throughout their employment in the Director role.

Qualifications:

  • An earned baccalaureate degree in respiratory care
  • State Licensure as a Respiratory Therapist (New York State Respiratory License required within 90 days of hire).
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentialed by the National Board of Respiratory Care.
  • Minimum of four (4) years experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, of which at least two (2) years should have been spent in clinical respiratory care and at least two (2) years in a teaching position in an accredited respiratory care program
  • Minimum of four (4) years as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, of which at least two (2) years should have been spent in clinical Respiratory Care.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience as a faculty member, clinical instructor, and/or preceptor for an accredited Respiratory Care program.
  • Excellent written verbal, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Computer proficiency and familiarity with instructional technology.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, positive work ethic, and positive attitude which reflect both integrity and empathy in working with students.
  • Able to pass medical clearance and background check required by affiliation facilities.
  • Demonstrated capacity to engage in productive collaborative work with a diverse group of colleagues with varying backgrounds.
  • Complete CoArc Key Personnel Training within 1 year of hire or meet CoArc approved background requirements.
  • Meet all current and ongoing standards as a member of Key Program Personnel as outlined by CoArc.

Duties and Responsibilities:

PROGRAM DIRECTION, MANAGEMENT, AND ADMINISTRATION

  • Successfully direct and manage all pending Committee on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) accreditation requirements.
  • Ensure that the Respiratory Care Program offers appropriately rigorous instruction and outcomes to meet all CoARC and New York State Education Department standards for accreditation.
  • Prepare and submit CoARC annual report of outcomes assessment.
  • Work with the program's Advisory Committee and Medical Director to assure the professional integrity and relevance of the curriculum.
  • Participate in the supervision and evaluation of the Coordinator of Clinical Education and any teaching faculty and adjunct clinical faculty in the Respiratory Care Program.
  • In conjunction with the Dean, manage the Respiratory Care Program annual budget, and the requisition and maintenance of appropriate instructional equipment and supplies.
  • Perform other appropriate activities as assigned by the Dean and/or Vice President for Academic and Student Affairs.

TEACHING

  • Teach courses in the program, the number of which to be determined based on program need and individual qualifications.
  • Work with relevant offices to promote the program and recruit qualified students into the program.
  • Advise and counsel students enrolled in the Respiratory Care program.

Salary:

Salary is determined by a candidate's rank at SUNY Sullivan, based on teaching experience, education, etc. The full starting salary range is between $63,500.00 to $80,500.00. A comprehensive list of benefits associated with this role is accessible at -sullivan-careers.
