Wen Public Health is the first school of its kind in Orange County. Across its nine-degree programs, the school trains approximately 1,600 undergraduates and 250 graduate and doctoral students annually and has one of the largest undergraduate cohorts in the country. The school's research portfolio tops out at roughly $42 million annually and we have leading experts in the field researching society's most pressing public health challenges. Along with our student population, the school's 60-plus faculty members, 100 staff members, and 75+ researchers are dedicated to the achievement of health equity for all populations through teaching, research, service, and public health practice – locally and globally. Responsibilities Oversee all operations and functions for the Public Health Undergraduate Student Affairs Office including management of all administrative services, long‑range planning, and establishing goals and policies to meet UC and UCI growth trends and targets including population demographics; fiscal constraints; and legislative, System‑wide and UCI rules and regulations. Direct the budget activities for the undergraduate team, including review, analysis, and making decisions on budget requests, and developing sound fiscal practices, plans, and strategies to deploy financial resources. With general supervisor, the Director of Undergraduate Student Affairs will work on the following main priorities: Supervise the Undergraduate Student Affairs team of Academic Advisors and Coordinators who provide academic advising for undergraduate students. Oversee all operations and functions for the Wen Public Health Undergraduate Student Affairs Office including management of all administrative services, long‑range planning, and establishing goals and policies to meet UC and UCI growth trends and targets including population demographics; fiscal constraints; and legislative, System‑wide and UCI rules and regulations. Coordinate a broad range of student initiatives in the school and across UCI. Identify and analyze all issues of significance to undergraduate education at UCI that have relevance to students, programs, faculty, and staff in the Wen Public Health. Analyze, design, develop and advise the Dean, Vice Dean of Academic Affairs, and Senior Assistant Dean, on curricular programs and changes both in and outside the school. Work closely with the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education on degree planning, course development, and student support. Create collaborative partnership with Wen Public Health Graduate Affairs Office for event planning and graduate program recruitment efforts. Direct the budget activities for the office, including review, analysis, and making decisions on budget requests, and developing sound fiscal practices, plans, and strategies to deploy financial resources. Direct joint activities between the Division of Career Pathways and the Public Health Student Affairs Office. Analyze data for new course trends, recruitment and retention, and submit annual data reports to UC and accreditation. Must be professional, highly organized, remain calm in high‑stress situations, and be able to work off‑hours for school events as needed and with ample notice. Must have previous leadership experience, excellent communication skills to report out to leadership and campus, be highly collaborative, and have a high level of critical thinking. Qualifications Required: Relevant work experience with a MA/MS/LCSW, or Equivalent experience. Knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively and diplomatically with students, faculty, staff, and the public. Knowledge and ability to read transcripts, compute GPAs, and convert semester units to quarter units and vice versa Basic mathematical skills, including the ability to figure percentages. Ability to work independently, using judgment and decision‑making skills to conduct short and long range planning, to prioritize tasks, and to follow through with related activities and request for information in an environment with a high volume diverse workload, of frequent interruptions, competing deadlines, changing priorities and compelling requests. Understanding of and sensitivity to needs of low income, first‑generation and/or international students. Skill to develop and implement a variety of programs. Skills in monitoring / assessing people, processes or services, to make improvements. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated skill and experience to supervise academic advising staff. Demonstrated experience in advising and counseling students to achieve positive outcomes. Demonstrated ability in persuasion and leadership. Skill to analyze situations, define problems/objectives and formulate conclusions. Ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Skills in social perceptiveness. Abilities in problem identification, reasoning. Project management skills. Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training At least 5 years professional experience in higher education administration, with 3 of those supervising staff in a dynamic office setting and at least 1 year managing budgets. Preferred: Comprehensive knowledge of financing higher education, including financial aid policies and procedures. Knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences. Knowledge of Program in Public Health student services policies, courses, student population, and specific data. Extensive in‑depth knowledge of academic procedures at the University of California, other colleges or university, or similar large institutions. Knowledge of the UC and UCI Academic Senate regulations and university policies concerning student records. Knowledge of common University‑specific computer application programs.
