Human Genetics - Assistant or Associate Professor- Research - Tenure

Research Faculty Opportunity – Human Genetics (Assistant/Associate Professor) The Division of Human Genetics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center is recruiting a Research Faculty member at the Assistant or Associate Professor level on the tenure track, with an expected effort of 90% research and 10% administrative service. The successful candidate will be dedicated to advancing precision medicine and targeted genetic therapies for rare diseases within the rapidly evolving field of interventional genetics. The candidate will contribute to the expansion of the division’s rare disease research programs, with particular strengths in lysosomal storage diseases, rasopathies, and skeletal dysplasias, and growing emphasis on neurodevelopmental disorders. The position offers extensive collaborative opportunities with the Applied Gene and Cell Therapy Center, the Rare Diseases Clinical Research Network, and multidisciplinary rare disease research programs and clinics at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, as well as participation in national initiatives such as the Undiagnosed Diseases Network and the National Organization for Rare Disorders. Responsibilities Conduct independent and collaborative research, ensuring highest quality and fiscal soundness. Participate in collaborative research projects through interactions with researchers and individuals from other divisions or departments. Mentor graduate students, post‑doctoral and research fellows, residents, and students, supporting functions related to the research mission. Contribute to research and teaching, serving as a teacher, role model and mentor internally; participate in the development and direction of research or educational programs at the division, department or system level. Complete evaluations for students, residents and peers; maintain currency in the field through continuing education, literature and seminars; enhance professional knowledge by attending conferences and professional meetings; implement knowledge into research. Service and/or Administration Lead integration of existing programs and development & growth of a major initiative of the assigned department and/or program. Lead program development for service and/or administration, including leadership roles in the development of innovative programs for research, patient care, and education, as well as leadership roles in an academic division, medical center, or university. Lead development of departmental policies, procedures and standards; serve as a role model of effective interpersonal relationships and encourage team concepts. Develop & guide the implementation of long‑ and short‑term goals and objectives aligned to the division and medical‑center strategic objectives; serve in a leadership role within the institute or medical center; participate as a member of the leadership team in developing consensus on various programs, approaches, issues & new initiatives within the department. Scholarly Activity Demonstrate ongoing commitment to scholarly activities: publication of original research, educational research, clinical observations, reviews, chapters or books; leadership role in research trials and/or investigations; membership on editorial boards. Apply advanced training in research methods to design and conduct clinical research in various areas of clinical specialty. Develop research programs in areas of clinical specialty; secure grant funding for research initiatives and programs; mentor and assist other faculty in grantsmanship. Develop and grow new externally funded research initiatives; develop a program that receives extramural support, such as major grants from the National Institutes of Health or other sources. Qualifications PhD degree in a related scientific or research field. 3+ years of related research experience, or laboratory experience assisting with preparation of data for presentation at scientific meetings. Strong publication record. Location: S campus of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center; may be required to work at locations outside the Burnet Campus.
