About the Position

Registered Nurse (RN) – Telemetry / Cardio Thoracic

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights | 12-Hour Shifts (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM) | Onsite | Every other weekend required | Holiday rotation required

Key Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care to a cardio thoracic patient population including diagnoses such as MI, CHF, atrial fibrillation, COPD, pacemaker/AICD placement, lung surgeries with chest tubes, and esophagectomy
• Perform continuous EKG monitoring, strip interpretation, and telemetry surveillance using Philips monitoring systems in collaboration with monitor technicians
• Titrate drips including Cardizem and heparin per unit protocols
• Manage patients requiring respiratory support including CPAP, BiPAP (home regimen), and heated high-flow oxygen in applicable circumstances
• Maintain nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:5–6 on nights, collaborating with PCTs and a 24/7 charge nurse and house supervisor
• Float to other general medical units as needed

Required Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Illinois, or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Demonstrated EKG interpretation skills
• Experience with medication titration and drip management
• Proficiency in all core nursing skills applicable to an adult medical-surgical or telemetry setting
• Must be able to pass a drug screen; facility maintains a drug-free campus policy

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Prior experience in a telemetry, cardio thoracic, or step-down unit setting
• Familiarity with chest tube management and post-surgical cardiac or thoracic patient care
