Engagement Purpose:
Uptown Alley Richmond is looking for an experienced independent Sound Technician to handle live audio for our entertainment programming, including live bands, DJs, karaoke, private events, and special occasions. You will make sure every event sounds great from setup to load-out, so guests get the high-energy experience Uptown Alley is known for. This is a contract engagement paid at a flat rate of $200 per gig. You use your own expertise and methods to deliver professional-quality sound.

Scope of Services:

• Event Audio Production
  • Set up, sound check, run, and break down audio systems for live and recorded entertainment
  • Mix live sound for bands, DJs, emcees, karaoke, and private event programming
  • Keep sound levels balanced and suited to the venue, the crowd, and the event type
• Equipment & Technical Support
  • Troubleshoot audio problems quickly and calmly during live events
  • Report equipment problems or needed repairs to venue management
  • Leave the stage and AV areas safe, organized, and ready for the next event
• Event Coordination & Guest Experience
  • Work with performers, event clients, and venue leadership on event needs and run-of-show
  • Help create a seamless, high-energy experience for guests and private event clients

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a live sound engineer or audio technician
• Working knowledge of digital and analog mixing consoles, PA systems, microphones, monitors, and signal flow
• Able to lift and move audio equipment (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods
• Reliable transportation
• Valid business license or contractor setup preferred (you will need to complete a W-9)

Experience:

• Required: Live sound experience in bars, clubs, concert venues, or event spaces
• Desirable: Experience in high-volume entertainment or hospitality venues

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong technical troubleshooting skills
• Clear communication with performers and clients
• Composure under pressure in a live, fast-paced environment
• Desirable: Lighting or video/AV experience

Personal Qualities:
Dependable, professional, and self-directed. You are adaptable, calm in a busy room, focused on the guest experience, and take pride in a clean, polished sound.

Engagement Details:

• Classification: Independent Contractor (1099)
• Compensation: $200 per gig, paid weekly via ACH direct deposit
• Location: On-site, Uptown Alley Richmond
• Availability: Every weekend, plus holidays and weekday special events as needed
• Coordinates With: General Manager/AGM, event clients, performers
• Engages With: FOH and BOH teams during events
• Travel Required: No
