About the Position

Job Title: Surgical Technologist Profession: Surgical Technologist Specialty: - Duration: 11 weeks Shift: 0700-1430 Mon-Thur Hours per Shift: 40 Experience: One year clinical operating room experience preferred License: Current certification in surgical technology preferred Certifications: Must have a current American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Provider Card Must-Have: - PATIENT CARE - SCRUBBING DUTIES Description: To provide safe care for patients following established standards and practices in accordance with professional and hospital standards. Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks quickly in a fast-paced environment. This position has limited access to Medication Rooms. Medications should not be handled at any time. Any questions should be directed to your supervisor or the charge nurse of the unit in question. Frequent standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, crouching, and stooping. Frequent lifting/moving patients. Intermittent lifting, moving, or carrying up to 50 lbs. Frequent pushing or pulling up to 50 lbs. Frequent use of finger/hand dexterity. Constant reaching with hands/arms and twisting. Frequent talking and/or hearing. Corrected hearing and vision to normal range. Exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissue. Possible exposure to infectious materials, communicable diseases, and/or other conditions common to a healthcare environment. Intermittent exposure to the risk of exposure to blood-borne pathogens. Moderate to high noise level in the work area. Requires work under stressful conditions, deadlines, or irregular hours. May be required to take call and/or work weekends/holidays based on the needs of the department. Constant interaction with internal and external customers, including patients, families, physicians, employees, and visitors. Assists in the coordination of patient care and collaborates with other health team members. Participates in performance improvement activities. Acts in the role of support during the surgical procedure but not as a surgical assistant during the surgical procedure. Creates and maintains asepsis. Performs scrubbing duties. Communicates patient information to the appropriate persons. Accounts for all equipment and supplies used in patient care. Communicates with peers and other health team members. Maintains adaptability and supports teamwork within the department and units. Resolves problems and consistently meets the department's Customer Service Quality Standards. Performs clinical preceptor role for scrubbing and follows orientation outline, collaborating with the patient care coordinator, educator, or Clinical Nurse Specialist. Maintains cleanliness in the unit and cleans equipment. Held responsible for the equipment use and care used during the surgical case. Performs other job duties and responsibilities as required.
