Patient Care Technician - Vascular ICU/Burn/Trauma Unit

Overview Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is hiring a Patient Care Technician (PCT) for the Vascular ICU/Burn/Trauma Unit. This is a full‑time, rotating 12‑hour shift position totaling 36 hours per week. Location: Norfolk, VA Shift: Rotating – candidates must be flexible to work either day (7:00 am to 7:00 pm) or night (7:00 pm to 7:00 am) shifts. Department: The 16‑bed Vascular ICU/Burn/Trauma unit provides intensive care for adult medical and surgical patients, including those recovering from kidney and pancreas transplants and complex vascular surgeries. Responsibilities Assist patients with activities of daily living and mobility. Collect vital signs and conduct point‑of‑care testing, including EKG. Record and report clinical observations to the RN or medical staff. Perform phlebotomy, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and Foley catheter insertion and removal under RN direction. Follow patient safety practices and maintain timely, accurate documentation. Qualifications Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent. At least one of the following is required: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT) Completion of US Navy Hospital Corps School Emergency Services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic) Current student enrolled in a clinical nursing, respiratory, or physical therapy program with at least one semester completed. Patient Care Technician or Nursing Assistant experience within the last three years. Certifications: AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of hire. Experience: One year of healthcare experience (preferred).
