Per Diem Registered Nurse

Under the direction of the Ward 86 Nurse Manager, the Registered Nurse (RN) will work in a primary care setting, delivering comprehensive nursing care within a multi-disciplinary team structure. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, providing direct patient care, administering medications, coordinating patient care, conducting assessments, and managing sexually transmitted diseases. The RN will also provide patient education and actively participate in quality improvement initiatives related to triage and other programs as required. Attendance at relevant meetings will be expected as part of this role. About Ward 86 Clinic Ward 86, the HIV/AIDS Clinic at the Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG) campus, is a leader in HIV care. It provides primary medical care for people living with HIV for the San Francisco Health Network (SFHN) and preventive services to patients at risk for HIV infection, including pre‑exposure prophylaxis (PrEP). Ward 86 serves approximately 2,500 patients living with HIV, with over 24,000 clinical encounters a year. Services are delivered through a comprehensive, multi‑disciplinary approach, including primary medical and HIV care, urgent care, mental health evaluation and treatment, substance use assessment, prevention services, specialty care, and psycho‑social interventions. Responsibilities Organize and provide nursing care to a patient population living with, or at risk of contracting, HIV/AIDS in an outpatient primary care setting. Assist patients with navigating healthcare systems, including coordinating care with specialty clinics and outside agencies. Serve as patient advocate to ensure comprehensive care is delivered. Facilitate patient medication management and education around treatment adherence. Assess patients, plan nursing care, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes, including screening for sexually transmitted infections. Act as a central member of the interdisciplinary team, manage patients with multiple comorbid conditions, identify barriers to care, and develop strategies to address them. Collaborate closely with clinic staff to support team functions. Provide direct nursing care for urgent and primary care patients, including bedside and emergency care, IV and medication management. Administer long‑acting injectable medications. Support triage workflows for medical referrals. Participate in data collection, reporting, clinical audits, and programmatic evaluations related to quality improvement. Attend clinic meetings and committees as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications One year of clinical experience. Experience working with patients living with HIV/AIDS. Experience with complex mental health conditions, including substance use disorders. Experience with patients experiencing homelessness or unstable housing. Experience with STI management. Experience with administration of long‑acting injectable medications. Preferred Qualifications Fluency in Spanish. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher. HIV/AIDS Certified Registered Nurse (ACRN) Certification. Two years as a Registered Nurse in a primary care setting. Required Licenses and Certifications CA Registered Nurse (RN) License. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. AHA Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.
