Sr. Database Administrator (SQL)

The Sr. Database Administrator (SQL) manages the back-end database environments utilized by the business applications. This individual utilizes the available database management and design tools to design, build, manage and optimize database structures, content, access, and performance. This position leads architectural discussions and is expected to design and configure the database environments used by the applications to be highly available and quickly recoverable in the event of a hardware failure. This person reports progress to supervisor or manager, and to any project manager for whom performing tasks. This individual has assigned responsibilities throughout project lifecycles and may be assigned to execute tasks on projects and provide technical support efforts concurrently. However, the Database Administrator is responsible for the quality and timeliness of their deliverables and must be able to plan, prioritize, and execute tasks on time.

Support IT project and support staff and business users in the design, development, testing and implementation of database changes for major projects, minor enhancements, and scrum sprints. Work with other staff to complete project deliverables on time and with acceptable quality. Contribute to strategic efforts to migrate databases from on-premises environments to a variety of cloud-based DB environments.

Plan, provide guidance, and perform ongoing modernization efforts for the database environments (both on-premises and cloud-based) along with the DBA support team and other teams to ensure that these database environments are on vendor supported versions.

Plan, design, build, manage, secure, maintain, and back up database instances used by applications in the various on-premises and cloud-based environments. Participate in database capacity planning, database backup strategy, and architecting High Availability / Disaster Recovery solutions for these environments. May have to work on multiple concurrent assignments on a daily basis.

Plan, design, review, develop, test, implement, and support database code or tools that are required for application functionality. This applies to business applications, DB maintenance applications, reporting applications, and data integration applications.

Provide guidance to the DBA support team with ongoing performance monitoring, analysis, and optimization efforts for the database environment configuration, index allocation, and stored procedures to ensure optimal database performance. This applies to both on-premises and cloud-based DB environments.

Provide guidance to application, DBA support and operations staff in the troubleshooting, analysis, and resolution of reported database issues that impact applications. Provide after-hours support (as required). Respond to and resolve incident tickets within agreed upon SLAs.

Provide account access to and permissions within supported database environments as per established policy guidelines. Participate in reviews to ensure that policy guidelines and best practices for database environments are followed.
