Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Lead/Trainer to oversee the daily activities and responsibilities of assigned shift personnel and shift duties within a 24/7/365 traffic operations control room which is onsite and located in Omaha, NE. As a secondary function, this position will also develop and deliver a comprehensive and innovative training program in support of daily control room operations. This position is responsible for ensuring strict compliance with standard operating procedures, quality control and personnel management. Applicants will need to be professional, dependable, self-motivated, and possess prior experience overseeing a staff of 3 to 6 team members. Applicants will also need to possess prior experience with training content development, training delivery and facilitation of a recurring certification program. The qualified applicants will need to clearly demonstrate their knowledge of Nebraska’s Interstate and Arterial Road Network and basic proficiency with computer and communication systems. Applicants will also need to confirm their willingness and ability to work in a 24/7/365 operating environment, which may include weekend, night, and holiday shifts.

This position is responsible for overseeing assigned shift personnel in the successful and timely execution of their duties in a fast-paced operational environment. Successful candidates must be able to demonstrate prior experience in leading small teams to achieve assigned objectives, ensure compliance with detailed operating procedures, maintain high staff morale, and ensure compliance with quality standards. 

Control Room Leads execute their responsibilities from a Traffic Management Center (TMC), located in Omaha, Nebraska. The environment is a technological hub for traffic operations, which uses a variety of different technologies for the purpose of enhancing safety and mobility. 

Position Details:

• Managing and logging traffic incidents in an advanced transportation management system software
• Coordinating and dispatching incident response crews to incidents in a safe, timely and efficient manner
• Detecting, confirming, and tracking equipment failures affecting control room operations (e.g., central system, computers, CCTV cameras, digital message signs, etc.)
• Coordinating with local, regional, and statewide stakeholders on all control room activities by providing essential and timely incident information and status
• Informing first responders of traffic related incidents involving injury and assisting with coordination of lane closures and diversion routes
• Coordinating incidents (to include traffic signal system malfunctions) with local municipalities for resolution and information dissemination
• Conduct periodic work product audits to ensure procedural compliance and staff understanding
• Oversee shift scheduling and compliance with attendance policies in conjunction with senior managers
• Coordinate and track all assigned employee training for initial and recurrent training
• Lead and/or participate in post-incident analysis
• Technical development of initial and recurrent training programs related to Control Room Operations in a traffic operations environment
• Design and implementation of a formal, computer-based multi-level position certification program
• Collaboration with national training program content designers in the development of training materials
• Administrative management of staff training files
• Preparation and delivery of reports on training status and results (report and metric formats) to mid and upper-level management
• Design and implementation of an operations employee performance auditing program
• Implementation of an employee award and recognition program based on successful completion of initial and recurrent training programs
• Training facilitation to include materials development, curriculum design and training delivery
• Other ad-hoc employee proficiency initiatives as assigned by the Program Manager
• Readily assume duties of Control Room Operator when needed to fill staffing shortages

Work Conditions:

• May be subject to short or no-notice work assignments during emergency events
• Rotating shift schedule, available morning, afternoons, and evenings
• Controlled, indoor environment with dimmed lighting
• Significant periods of sitting, CCTV camera viewing and data entry
• Heavy volume of telephone, radio and computer usage

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• High School + 2 or more years prior experience as a Traffic Monitoring Operator or other related experience
• Ability to work a highly flexible schedule to meet the training needs within a 24/7/365 operation with rotating schedules 
• Driver’s license is in good standing

Preferred

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or equivalent amount of practical experience
• Previous supervisory experience
• Experience in training program development and administrative management, 2 years minimum
• Competence in MS Office products
• Technical writing skills to include grammar editing and content flow
• Innovative approach to training program design and delivery
• Public speaking and presentation skills
• Time management experience
• Prior experience working in a fast paced, technology infused environment
