POSITION SUMMARY:

Assists with routine nursing care to patients in the Acute care hall and Emergency Department as directed by the Charge Nurse and in accordance with the hospital’s objectives and policies.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists the Charge Nurse and licensed nursing staff with implementation of patient care plans and performs delegated nursing care duties within scope of practice.
  • Provides personal care and assists patients with bathing, grooming, oral care, toileting, feeding, mobility, transfers, and activities of daily living.
  • Assists with patient positioning, ambulation, turning, coughing, deep-breathing exercises, and other comfort measures.
  • Measures, records, and reports vital signs, height, weight, intake and output, calorie counts, and other assigned patient information.
  • Observes patients and promptly reports changes in condition or concerns to licensed nursing staff.
  • Assists with admissions, transfers, discharges, and Emergency Department registration when registration staff is unavailable.
  • Collects and transports specimens and assists with delegated treatments, diagnostic procedures, and pre- and post-procedure care.
  • Transports patients for diagnostic testing, treatments, and therapies.
  • Provides compassionate care and emotional support to patients and families while respecting patient rights.
  • Assists with postmortem care as directed.
  • Maintains accurate patient care documentation and inventories patient belongings as required.
  • Maintains a clean, safe, and organized patient care environment, including beds, equipment, and supplies.
  • Follows infection prevention, isolation, and body substance precaution procedures.
  • Participates in patient reports, care planning, care conferences, staff meetings, and required in-service education.
  • Maintains regular attendance and punctuality.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A current Colorado Certified Nursing Aide (CNA) license or temporary permit to practice as a graduate nurse’s aide in the State of Colorado.
  • Current CPR certification.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of related healthcare or patient care experience preferred.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Must be able to work efficiently both independently and collaboratively with teams and leadership while demonstrating a high level of integrity, sound judgment, and attention to detail. This role requires professionalism in all interactions with employees, patients, and the public, along with the ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with all SECHD, state, and federal policies and regulations. Strong problem-solving, organizational, and time-management skills are essential, as is the ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to change, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with a professional and compassionate demeanor. Computer proficiency and the ability to learn new software systems are required. Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations is preferred. Dependability, initiative, and the ability to see tasks through to completion are critical, as is a commitment to safety, quality, and working under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours.
