Occupational Therapist

Must possess national certification and state licensure as an occupational therapist. Experience in school-based occupational therapy desired.

Reports To: Executive Director of Exceptional Children

Essential Responsibilities

Evaluate individual students' occupational performance areas, components and contexts that are relevant to the student's ability to function in school.

Identifies students' strengths, weaknesses, needs, goals, objectives; determines service delivery requirements necessary for students to benefit from the educational setting.

Designs and provides individualized treatment to address specific occupational therapy- related IEP goals.

Attends IEP and other meetings regarding the students' needs.

Prepares, submits, and maintains student records, IEPs, complete documentation, and other reports required by special education and Medicaid in a correct and timely manner.

Fabricates and/or provides adaptive equipment; custom-makes splints to prevent further deformities and to increase function.

Maintains supplies and equipment; selects new equipment as required using District procedures and procurement.

Collaborates and maintains communication with team members including teachers, parents, physicians, other therapists, and the Director of Exceptional Children in the provision of services and evaluation of student progress.

Supervises the work of assistants and volunteers, as assigned.

Provides in service training to educational staff and parents.

Applies ethics, confidentiality, and standards of professional practice in the delivery of school- based occupational therapy services; observes all relevant district, state, and federal regulations for Occupational Therapists in the schools.

Participates in professional development opportunities, and encouraged to participate in professional organizations, to continually improve professional knowledge and skills.

Coordinates and/or participates in special projects or programs, as assigned, and other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Executive Director of Exceptional Children.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to deal with problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.

Other Skills and Abilities

Ability to pass a District typing test. Ability to operate a personal computer and related software. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and the Board of Education policies.
