Athletic Trainer

Summary The Athletic Trainer is responsible for the comprehensive care, treatment, and prevention of athletic injuries for all students/athletes within the interscholastic athletic program, as well as administrative duties related to student athlete health and safety. This role involves working collaboratively with coaches and School Administration to ensure athletes receive appropriate medical care and treatment. Qualifications and Attributes Holds valid Athletic Trainer Certification and New Jersey License of Eligibility CPR and AED Certified Prior to Employment Complete a criminal history background check to prove that the individual has not been convicted of a crime or a disorderly person’s offense in accordance with N.J.S.A 18A:6-7.1. Provide evidence that health is adequate to fulfill the job functions and responsibilities with reasonable accommodation pursuant to 42 U.S.C. 12101 and in accordance with N.J.A.C. 6A:32-6.2. Valid Driver’s License All other iLearn Schools HR Hiring Requirements Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an athletic training education program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) Experience Previous experience as an athletic trainer (preferred) Current knowledge of athletic training techniques and procedures Demonstrated ability to instruct, lead and supervise student athletes Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills Requirements / Environmental Conditions Requires prolonged sitting or standing Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull or push objects or materials Requires the ability to work in noisy and crowded environments Occasionally requires stooping, bending or reaching Requires some traveling Occasionally requires work outdoors in school activities The ability to travel between locations Performance Responsibilities Assume responsibility for the care, treatment and prevention of athletic injuries Be responsible for all students/athletes involved in the interscholastic athletic program and collaborate with coaches to ensure proper medical care and referrals Assist the Athletic Director and Coaches to ensure all athletes are properly registered and have up‑to‑date sports physicals from the appropriate health care provider Create an emergency contact list for all athletes to be given to each coach Operate within the limitations of the license and abilities Administer first aid when necessary and/or arrange for medical care Work closely with coaches on conditioning, first aid, reconditioning after injuries and overall well‑being of athletes in the program Apply protective or injury‑preventive devices such as taping, strapping, bandaging or braces Advise athletes and coaches on conditioning and training, including diet, rest and rehabilitation Advises coaches about athlete readiness and return to activity level Work cooperatively with physicians on: Carrying out treatment instructions for athletic injuries Reconditioning procedures Operation of therapeutic devices and equipment Fitting of braces, guards and other devices Referrals to the physician Collaborate with the school nurse to file accident reports Maintain and resupply medical kits for each in‑season team Submit an annual budget to the Athletic Director and order supplies and equipment per district procedures Inventory all training equipment and supplies Ensure AEDs are properly maintained and up‑to‑date Attend practice sessions, games and tournaments as directed Attend home athletic contests unless advised otherwise by the Athletic Director Attend tournaments and athletic contests when the Athletic Director requires Student Management Supervise and instruct student trainers and staff under jurisdiction Maintain accident reports and injury records Keep informed of latest equipment and sports‑medicine knowledge; maintain certification status Participate in continuous study and research, attend conferences and workshops to enhance professional competence Advise parents on athlete care and injuries Serve as liaison with school nurse Interpret athletic training program to administration and staff Facilitate effective communication among students, staff and community about the athletic training program During off‑season assignments, limit coverage to a maximum of 3 classes per day; exclude lunch duty as one class Perform other duties within scope of employment and certification as assigned Record Keeping Maintain accurate and detailed records: injury reports, doctor’s notes, rehabilitation protocols, insurance claim forms and school insurance claims for athletes who require a doctor’s visit Compensation and Benefits Base salary: $66,500 with experience increments of $200 per year. Advanced Degree – Masters receives $3,000; PhD receives $5,000.
