Job Title: Solderer – Electronics Manufacturing (Class 3, Mission-Critical Work)
Job Description
This role focuses on high-precision Class 3 soldering for mission-critical electronic assemblies used in demanding military and industrial applications. You will solder fine-pitch and thru-hole components on active printed circuit boards according to detailed customer specifications and industry standards, ensuring every assembly meets stringent quality and reliability requirements.
Responsibilities
- Perform Class 3 soldering on active printed circuit boards, including fine-pitch and thru-hole components, in accordance with customer specifications and industry standards.
- Assemble and solder small electronic components and boards used in advanced applications such as night vision systems and safety-critical industrial equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, customer schematics, and work instructions to ensure accurate placement and soldering of all components.
- Use a microscope throughout the workday to perform detailed, high-precision soldering on small and complex assemblies.
- Produce visually clean, high-quality solder joints that consistently pass internal quality inspections and meet Class 3 criteria.
- Follow detailed soldering procedures and guidelines, including those aligned with IPC-610 and J-STD standards, to maintain consistent workmanship.
- Complete and pass an internal soldering test, achieving at least 80 out of 100 points by correctly soldering resistors and other components on a test circuit board.
- Work steadily and efficiently while maintaining a strong focus on accuracy, quality, and adherence to mission-critical standards.
- Participate in training and shadowing during the first week to learn processes, expectations, and quality requirements before working on customer products.
- Incorporate feedback from supervisors and quality personnel to continuously improve technique, speed, and overall performance.
- Collaborate closely with nearby team members in a small, fast-paced production environment, supporting a positive and cooperative team culture.
- Adhere to all company policies, safety procedures, and documentation practices related to electronics manufacturing and inspection.
- Proven experience performing electronic soldering on printed circuit boards, including fine-pitch and thru-hole components.
- Demonstrated ability to perform Class 3 level soldering, producing visually clean and inspection-ready solder joints.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, customer schematics, and detailed work instructions.
- Previous experience soldering exclusively through a microscope for extended periods, with strong hand-eye coordination and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with IPC-610 standards, with current or past IPC-610 certification.
- Knowledge of J-STD (J-Standard) requirements related to soldering and electronic assembly.
- Hands-on experience with surface mount and thru-hole soldering techniques on PCBs.
- Capability to pass a soldering test with a minimum score of 80 out of 100 points.
- Strong quality mindset, with a clear understanding that mission-critical Class 3 work requires accuracy and zero tolerance for avoidable mistakes.
- Ability to work in a clean, fast-paced production environment while staying focused and productive.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and reliability, including consistent attendance and willingness to maintain high standards.
- Eligibility to work in the United States as required by the role.
- Prior experience in electronics manufacturing for defense, military, or other mission-critical applications.
- Experience assembling and soldering active PC boards that are integrated into larger systems and equipment.
- Comfort working with microscopes similar to those used in educational science labs for detailed inspection and soldering.
- Exposure to IPC-620 or related standards for cable and harness assemblies.
- Experience working in small, close-knit production teams where collaboration and communication are important.
- Demonstrated ability to accept feedback, adapt quickly, and improve soldering quality and efficiency over time.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow structured processes and procedures consistently.
You will join a small, tight-knit team where your craftsmanship has a direct impact on critical, real-world applications. The company fosters a high-morale environment through team-based activities and charity work that build camaraderie and shared purpose. You benefit from a 9/80 schedule that provides every other Friday off, supporting work-life balance while still maintaining a full-time career. The culture emphasizes quality over quantity, continuous learning, and pride in producing mission-critical products, giving you the opportunity to refine your skills and grow as a highly specialized soldering professional.
Work Environment
The work environment is a clean, fast-paced electronics manufacturing facility with a relatively small workforce, which creates a close and collaborative atmosphere. Team members sit near one another, so daily work involves frequent interaction and cooperation with colleagues. You will spend most of the day seated at a workstation, using a microscope to perform detailed soldering tasks on small components and printed circuit boards. The facility operates on a 9/80 schedule, with standard hours from 6:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and every other Friday off. The environment emphasizes precision, consistency, and adherence to quality standards, while also encouraging team-based charity initiatives that contribute to a positive and engaged workplace culture.
